If you read corey's post at the top of the page it seems that maybe pariahs aren't meant to have fearless...

EDIT: And by sods law this post was of course on a new page... Top of page 5 I meant.

I remember responding to that now.  :(  Dear Lord, where is my memory!?

Well, I'm formatting the new list in Corey's absence.  I'll go through this entire thread and put out a draft for review in case my memory fails (again).

It was the Wraiths that aren't supposed to be fearless.

If Pariah's *aren't* fearless, then you can kiss Warrior Phalanxes good-bye...

Nope, reading over the thread he meant that NO infantry are supposed to be fearless.  This is what I was referring to with my 'senior' question.  Relative to Immortals and Warriors, Pariahs are not fearless I believe.

You might want to try calling corey about that one, as lack of at least one fearless unit in a Phalanx is gonna spell the doom of Necron armies...

From my playtest experiences, I'd say it's going to make a radical change to the army removing that.

I've tried contacting Corey on lots of things but...
The only things fearless should be the "mechanical" units.  Spyders, Obelisks, Monoliths, Orbs, Abbattoirs, and Pylons.  The C'tan are supposed to be fearless as well.

Otherwise, no other unit should have it.

This is rather unambiguous.  I can't see how it can be interpreted as anything BUT taking the fearless off the Pariahs.

And I can't see the Necrons being served the deathblow by making Pariahs fearless either (given their win ratio).

I'm back.  I was required to go to New York on an emergency trip.

Unfortunately what I got there was sick.  It started with Bronchitis and went downhill from there.

anyway, I have a new version ready to hand to someone.

For the record, I've never played with Fearless on Pariahs.

Wow, that's shocking to me!  Pariahs and Tomb Spyders are the only fearless units in 40k that are also in EPIC.  In my experience it's onky the survival of a Pariah unit that allows a Phalanx to rebuild itself... but if that's the way you've played it I guess that's the way it's supposed to be!  *laugh*

If you email me the army list file, I can format it into the SG style... but be quick, I'm off to Portugal for ten days starting Friday night!  *laugh*

I like the idea of losing fearless on pariahs, for two reasons. Firstly, it's a much needed necron nerf, and secondly it actually gives a reason to take tomb spyders at all.

I'm already formatting it.  Go to Portugal with the knowledge that when  you return the Necron list (and Raiders as a whole) will probably be done. :)

indeed.

Spyders have 2 uses.

1.) Mobile cover
2.) A fearless unit around which the formation can be restored.

The firepower on them is pretty much a secondary consideration in their utility.

Pariah's are there primarily for providing the "inspiring" ability.

I played a couple of games with the necrons last night, my first with 4.4.1

My list was something like:

Abbatoir
3 monos + 1 obo
2 monos + 1 obo
Phalanx + pariah + immortal + 2 wraiths + spyder
Phalanx + pariah + immortal + spyder
Phalanx
Pylon
5 destroyers + 1 heavy + Lord

2970 points I think

I was playing wraiths and pariahs as non-fearless, and wraiths as 1 attack first strike.

I played against Pulsar's aspect heavy Eldar and E&C's big stompy titan legion.

For the first time in a long time with necrons, both games were tight and fun, with both going to turn 4.

The multi monolith formations has made a huge change to the list, with my activations cut to a fairly standard 8 rather than the 12 or so I used to have.

I lost both games 2-1 on turn 4, but enjoyed them both. It's a massive improvement on the list.

My Pylon, as usualy, did absolutely nothing, spending the whole Eldar game broken and dying on the first turn to the titans.

Against the titans I tried a different approach, with my main forces not coming on to the board till turn three to try to grab a lot of objectives. It almost worked and would have done had the abbatoir not failed a 2+ engagement to munch a reaver in CC.

The one aspect of the list I'm still concerned about is the SR 3 when you have a supreme commander. To me, this makes the Necrons overpowered, and is what stops me from taking a c'tan or warbarque. I think this rule should be dropped, leaving Necrons always as SR 1. Supreme commander is enough of a bonus without having this bonus as well.

dying on the first turn to the titans.

It took every single unit I had firing at it over the course of the turn though!

Literally every formation, and it was finally finished off by a Thunderbolt!

Having talked this over with Zombocom last night, I highly concur, this is a very, very important change that should be put through ASAP.

Most importantly I want to stress that this is the most fun my opponents have had playing against necrons ever, and not just because they won! The monolith changes have totally revamped the list, and left it so much more ballanced.

Just one or two more changes are needed to make this a damn good list.
