The new WD gives us the Tau fleet's prices...
Explorer Class ?18 Hero Class ?15 Merchant Class ?15 Defender Class Escorts x3 ?6 Orca Class Gunships x4 ?6
I was considering getting a small Tau fleet, but I don't think so now. The Tau aren't going to be coming up as 2nd hand models for awhile and I don't know any BFG discounters. Otherwise the fleet is just too expensive. It even looks like the larger models don't come with Orcas to fill their docking points. Pricewise, the Escorts are what I expected, but I thought the Explorer would be ?15 and the Hero/Merchant around ?10. ?

I agree I was a bit surprised at the price of the explorer being 18 pounds, I had taken a look at the other bigger ships and they are around 15 pounds.
Nice ships though and they would be nice for the Tau stuff I already have in epic and 40k.

.. I agree that the Hero and Merchant seem overpriced- the Explorer looks to be slightly bigger than the other battleships, so ?18 seems reasonable-ish, but ?15 for a cruiser?! ...hmm

Hi!
Gotta agree with you there. The prices are one of those reasons I never got into warmaster or BFG.

Dudes, the prices should be one of those things that make you play BFG, not the other way around. it is by far the less expensive GW game out there and of the 5 I have tested (WHFB, 40k, Mordheim, Necromunda, BFG) the most tactically sound as well. A 1500 fleet is not expensive (wwhen we talk GW prices that is) considering that a 2k fleet can cost you 100 euros (dunno about conversion prioces) or less. if you want to go for ubbermegafleets the thing changes, granted, but that is the same for every game out there
And yup, the cost of the tayu fleet uis waaaaaaaaay higher than that of other fleets out there and I think the models for the capitol ships are not that TAU-ish at all. Considering that the rules are also quite sicky for more than a pair of ships....
Health and a lot of sixes,
Xavi

Forgeworld fleet? May I say, huh? ? | Will Hayes is working on a Tau Fleet based on the ship designs used in The Fire Warrior computer game. Their very different from the designs that Fanatic are putting out so they're being done as a fleet from a different sector or something. More like the design of the epic manta - all curves and "Ray" styles.

Interesting. Do you have a timescale for their release?

The thing about BFG is that a big battle doesn't need that many ships. Even one with 10+ capital ships is a historically large encouter. Whereas 500,000 points of Epic is massive (are you sure you're eating?), but still a fairly average planetwide conflict.
