Help a Newbie?

 Post subject: Help a Newbie?

Hi guys, I'm interested in playing Battlefleet gothic, but I can't decide which fleet I want to play, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some input on a good one to choose?

I'm not looking for a powerful fleet.. I want a fleet that is fun to play, looks cool and that isn't completely underpowered (ie, it stands a chance against most fleets, but isn't cheesy or overpowering).

Thanks :)

Hey Asmodeus, going on what you just said I would reccomend the Imperials or Chaos.. They have nice minis... (Imperials being my favourites.. they rule!!) .. They are the only races to have plastic sets, so this cuts down on prices a bit, and they have also been round a while and so are probabaly the most balanced fleets in the game.
Hope that helps... :)

Hmm, stormseer beat me to it. For a total beginner i would recommend Imperial awell for the reasons stormseer recomended.

Renember that if you have any other questions or quries about the fleets we are all here to help you :)

yeah, Imperial or Chaos, if you notice, all of the fleets have some kind of special ship or rule, the less struggle the better for newbies!

Imperials are good :D

All I can say is don't be too cheesy with the fleet. Stick to the fleet list in the rule book at first.

Over at Dakka Dakka and the BFG-list I have seen newbies with apocalypse battleships, Grand Cruisers and Carrier light cruisers as part of their first fleet!!

Cheers

Chris

Yeah, you don't watn to go into it full thrust. Keep it simple. I would recommend the imperial fleet as well. Get some cruisers and a few battleships and have at 'em. :)

Hi!

Hehe, when I read the message the first time, I thought you meant "use the FULL THRUST rules", then read it again and realized the true context.

I've played to many games for my own damn good. :p

Hi!

Well, you may be right, but my wife says I have a toxic dump as far as thoughts go. I grew up in New York so that may explain it. :p

Back onto topic :;):

The Imperials and Chaos provide the cheapest way to begin a fleet with the plastic cruisers available.  Both have a unique style of fighting, but ultimatly both use the standard rules, which helps for newbies.

If you want fun, however, Orks are probably the best fleet.

On the front page there is a link to the battlegroups section.  Here you will find the De'aynes guide for the gothic game.  Cyber has already wrote a guide for Imperial and Chaos, so have a read through those.  Also due to go up is the Eldar and Ork guides.  So once they are up (should be any day now I already sent him both) have a read through those to make yur mind up.

Also on this forum is a thread about a campaign I entered using Orks.  Its a long read, but there's a good bit of info there.  I am going to compile it all so it can be put on the front page.

And finally, in the battle groups section again, there is an Eldar fleet.  This will give you a little insight to those too.  I know from what you described they probably aren't for you, but its good to have a good idea of all options before you choose.

All the best.
