Hello all,

I got a couple packs of Railheads from Forgeworld last week, and as I was putting them together, I double-checked the latest list, and noticed that the Hammerhead only lists Smart Missile System as the secondary weapon.

Since the Railheads are actually packed with Burst Cannons as the secondary weapon, is it alright to use the BCs, or is it necessary that they be armed with SMS's?

It's fine to use the models the way they are, but they would still have SMS in game; to avoid confusion, best to let any opponents know that during setup.

Hmm shouldn't the models be WYSIWYG? Yes count-as is fine but as a general rule all units are supposed to be armed with the most common and/or standard armament (eg MissileLauncher for Space Marines) which is also showed on the model.

Well, it's a "Railgun Hammerhead", as long as it can be identified by an opponent as such, it's all good.

Some people base their Tactical Marines with no missile launcher and their Devastators with one per stand; as long as they can be distinguished, it's completely valid in play.

*I* sure wouldn't be forcing an opponent, *especially* a Tau player, to have to buy double the models just because of Forge World's packaging policies.  *laugh*

While other games have players that would get anal about that kind of thing, I doubt any Epic player would ever bring it up.  We're just too rare a commodity to possibly lose a playing partner over something like that.

Well, that's two for, and one against burst cannons -- not the best odds, but I appreciate everyone's input!

And I agree, there's too few of us around :)

I'm highly in favour of adopting WYSIWYG stats for the Hammerhead.

Dont get me started on this! This irritates me as well. The only way to calm down is to think that the Railgun and SMS stats on a Hammerhead are the same, no matter what you call it. The problem is that Railguns already have stats, and they are not balanced with the current SMS, so one would be more powerful... leading to discussion about rebalancing the things... just for a secondary weapon system.

No, it is easier to simply say that the Railgun drone turrets have the same stats as the SMS drone turrets, and move on.

While WYSIWYG is certainly an option, I really don't have a use for the burst cannons (at least in 40k), and I really don't want to lose the SMS for the simple expedient of WYSIWYG.  'Counts as' is our friend here.  The SMS fills a vital niche in the Tau army (especially in 40k, and the SMS is far more useful than BC in E:A).

Must be time for another nastygram to Forgeworld... I don't believe it would kill them to make HH hulls a separate option from the turrets, even at epic scale.

I've never cared. The burst cannons look a lot better than the SM systems. The stats are what the book says and WYSIWYG goes only so far that I need to be able to tell IC and RG Hammerheads apart.
