Pardon my ignorance; what is a Salamander? IFV? APC?

It's a Chimera-hulled vehicle used by IG Commanders.

Originally IG mechanised companies were to have 6 Chimeras & 1 Salamander for the Commander.

I like it. Too bad it was never released. I'd pick up a few.

Are all Salamanders open topped? Aren't there any enclosed ones?

If there is no official Salamanders "Amageddon Pattern" with enclosed cabine then it will not be included in my SteelLegion PDF :)

I think you could make a very passable enclosed Salamander from a SG enclosed Baslisk actually.

Just don't stick the Earthshaker on, and you have a vehicle that essentially looks like an enclosed Salamander

Why would SG mess with one when the FW version is just fine?

Because SG and FW had a stupid fight when E:A was made (Ref: All those FW models only recieving 'collector's' stats).

Good idea. The SG Basilisks crew compartment is too small nevertheless. The WH40k version from FW covers half of the tracks and hsngs over the backof the chassis.
Perhabs one day i will greenstuff my Basilisks to resemble the Wh40k version more closely.

But with officially i meant: Mentioned in the fluff :)
