Hello all,

Well, I have a BFG battle in two days. Since I want my Marine force to be completed before fielding it, I will go to the battle using my Imperial fleet. I have used similar fleets in two previous games so far, but I have been soundly beaten each time.

A newbie I am, hehe! :)

Well, this is why I wanted to ask for help from more experienced admirals. :)

In past games I found that I lacked ordinance and the enemy's ordinance numbers gave me a beating! :(

To cover that deficiency, I have decided to take a Mars as my flagship this time around (Apart from the fact that I love the model and I have an unused one still around :) ).

Let's see if you can spot any big holes in my fleet.

--------------------------------------

- Admiral. Ld 9, 1 reroll

- x1 Mars battlecruiser
- x1 Dictator
- x1 Dictator
- x1 Dominator
- x4 Swords
- x3 Firestorms
- x3 Firestorms
- x3 Cobras

TOTAL: 1,495 points

--------------------------------------

I have 8 lances, 12 fighter/bomber squads and 18 torps, as well as 2 good batteries (Dictator and Swords) as well as 2 Nova Cannons. I do not rely very much on Nova cannons since I suck at guessing distances being a long time WHFB High Elf player who has never needed to be able to guess distances well. In fact, I would prefer not having them, but there is no option to take them out and get more torpedoes, so I will try to do my best here, hehe. ?

If some of my assumptions are wrong, please let me know about them.

I am still learning, you know! :)

Thanks in advance!
Health and a lot of sixes,
Xavi.

Xavi,

Your list looks solid and it's a very flexible one.

I think that rather than worrying about the composition of your list, you'd be better off worrying about the tactics you'll be using.

I think I'd keep the cruisers in positions to support one another (grouped) and send your escorts out in two flanking groups. Time it so they hit in one strike. I know that it's much easier said than done.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Yup, I am still learning to manoeuvre as well, but this will come with time! :)

The fact that ships keep moving in BFG (except if you burn retros, a thing that is rarely used since it requires a special order) is a HUGE difference from other games I play. I still found that a lack of air support will hurt me a lot, so the extra launch bays are a must (only had a single Dictator before that).

On the tactics part, I am working on something; that's for sure! I have already planned to use most of my fleet squadrons advancing while beating the enemy with torpedo curtains and then racing in with the Dominator and cruiser gangs to pummel his weakest ship and hopefully blow up one ship at a time.

Let's see if that works out well.

On a side note, are you editing the name of every post I make? Not that it really worries me, but it is quite curuious since the titles tend to be clear enough on their own when I post the message! :)

Health and a lot of sixes,
Xavi.

Xavi,

I did edit the title. I try to make everything fit in with the style of the site and to make posts clear for when the archives are drawn up. Some things like army or fleet lists tend to get monotonous when you read fifteen posts called "My Ship List."

If it is bothersome, I do respect people's wishes to refrain from correcting spelling and grammar.

Shalom,

Oh, no, it is not bothersome at all.

As you can see English is not my mother tongue and I type fast, and that means loads of mistakes! :)

If you have the time to edit it, I have no problems with that. It is simply that I was curious about it.

Thx for the info! :D

Regards,
Xavi.

Greetings Xavi.

I am not an Imperial player primarily, but have used them a couple of times, and fought them lots of times.

Out of curiosity, who are you facing?  This will help in the offering of tactical advice.

Onto the fleet list, it looks quite good.

I actually think you have too many carriers now, however.  Especially in only a 1500pt list.

1 Dictator and 1 Mars should supply you with enough attack craft.

Instead of the Dictator get another cruiser with more firepower.  Which depends upon who you are facing.  Gothics are good against high armour (Necrons, Imperial, Orks [on the front] etc)  whereas the battery cruisers (dominator I think) are good against Eldar, Dark Eldar etc.

Lunars are usually an effective ship, especially when in a squadron of two.

Personally I agree with ShadowHunter- I'm not big on attack craft- In my 5000pt fleet, I have the same as what you have in your list! hehe ?:-:

-If you don't already use them, the experimental ordanance rules might be worth a go- you can only launch as many attack craft stands as you have launch bays- this stops people churning out squadron after squadron of them..... :L

Actually, Stormseer raised a very good point for you there.

The most recent (UK) ed of white dwarf has a list of experimental rules that have been released for BFG.

Amongst them are the carrier rules and also the Nova Cannon rules, which helps poor range guessers, such as yourself.

If your Edition of WD contains this article too, I recomend you get it.

The experimental rules for Novas do make things very easy for poor range guessers imo; perhaps too easy...
The template doesn't usually tend to deviate very far at all.... nice for us Imperials I guess..  :D
