Last semester i made an interesting discorvey, you can make mold from plaster, i made a mold of my hand. How?

Well i filled a bucket with professional quick dry plaster and shoved my hand in (i knew id get stuck btw, we were planning on hammering the mold into 2 after). Unfortunately the reaction of the professional plaster meant that what is a normal heating up became oven hot. And i was stuck in it...light burn to my hand which i had (luckily) covered in Vaseline and managed tro slip out of the burning furnace of plaster.

This said, and a week given for it to cool my Mold was still intact and i poured a different colour of plaster into my mold (lined with vaseline). I got a nice hand back. SO i was wondering if it could be considered sane to make 2 piece molds out of plaster (as its easy to hold a model halfway sumbmerged for 15 mins or so) and then vaseline the side of the mold (leaving model) and plastering over the second half.

I found, after an attempt to get my hand out of the furnace by hammer that plaster is ver durable and the outre layer smooth, and hard to chip.

Therefore wuld it be a good idea to make a plaster mold to cast either in resin or in another material such as greenstuff. For resin a pouring and air duct(s) are easy to make with some left over sprues.

Any ideas on whether or not its worth me testing this. Also does anyone know at what temperature a Landraider MK1 will melt?

Regards,

Generally plaster moulds are only used for casting flexible products, ie. casting in rubber or slip clay. Normally there has to be some 'give' in either the mould or the cast item, so as to remove it without damage.

So professional casters use plaster moulds for clay items that are to be kiln fired, but rubber moulds for casting in resins, and metals.

Still, if you want to give it a try, I'd love to hear how you get on...

Regards,
Reaver

Sounds like that time I tried to 'get it on' with a Horta.

You're not the first person to make a cast of body parts. Back in the '70s there was a woman who was known for making plaster casts of male rock stars', um, members.

I've just bought silicon & resin yesterday, to try molding some stuff. I'll show you the result if it works.

IT WORKS CAST 1 IS COMPLETE...the infatryman came out easily and the detail is PERFECT. All i need now is the casting material...and i have an uber durable mold for infantry men...if someone guesses the unit im molding ill send them a batch of 10.

hhmmmmmhmmmmm could it be....... Imperial Guard, The Trench coat mafia ones? that would be my choice. Or maybe some nice spike Chaos troopers, that would be a good test of a mold.

If I were you I would be doing the old Chaos Androids first and foremost.  The latest batch sold for $30US on Ebay for 36 models (that is almost a dollar per Necron Warrior).

Yep. The prime candidates to recast would be Chaos Androids and Tyranid infantry.
