Got in a second "One Gun" Theory game yesterday, this time with Orks.

My opponent's crushing win over the Eldar had him in high spirits and I was hoping the Greenskins could give him a good booting...

Roll-off and Orks win, choosing corner deployment.

Deployment:

Orks garrison both Gunzmobs in cover and on overwatch.  The Warband and the Stormboyz are also garrisoned, infesting the Cathedral and nearby fortifications.

Shall we bet on results? I reckon the titans have it in the bag as it isn't that powerful an ork force (a lack of zap brigades for one, though perhaps the surprisingly high number of gunwagons could help). Corner deployment could be tricky if the titans don't motor turn 1. Also the titans should have placed their blitz with them as opposed to so far away - tricky for orks to get to maybe but impossible for the titans to hold.

My money's definitely on the titans so long as they stick reasonably close together. Even the largest of the ork mobs there would be hard pressed to out-assault a Warlord supported by Warhounds or a Reaver. Personally I'd favor a minimum of arm-mounts filled. No speed increase, though. The lower point cost seems like it should be enough benefit without encouraging people to mount stuff like a Laser Burner+Melta-Cannon on a Warlord for extreme assaultyness along with +5cm movement AND lower cost.

I think that's a pretty solid argument.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: AMTL, who pass to Orks

Dropping out of the sun, the Fighta-Bommerz hit Warhound Pack 2? and drop 1 Void shield.

Warhound Pack 2 advances to fire on the Warband and manages to kill 2 Grots.

The Stormboyz double up to partially surround Warhound Pack 2 and drop another Void shield.

Warlord 2 knows easy picking when it sees it and moves to engage the Stormboyz in clipping firefight with Warhound Pack 2 in support? and the Titan commander is horrified when the Stormboyz pile into the Warhounds? obscuring themselves from the Warlord completely!

The battle is absolutely incredible, going a stunning 3 rounds?

Both Warhounds are trashed, 5 Boyz crushed, 2 Deth Koptas crashed? and the AMTL still only manages to win by "1" as *BOTH* sides roll "snake-eyes" for combat resolution rolls? another Kopta goes down, but the laughter of the fleeing Orks has shaken the Imperials.

The Kult of Speed revs up and makes a long looping march around the Ork left flank.

Reaver 2 doubles forward to put a Blast marker on the Warband and also gets into the path of the Fighta-Bommerz.

The Stompamob doubles down the road and the Supa-Stompa catches both Reaver 2 and Warlord 2 under templates, stripping 2 Void shields from the larger Titan and placing a Blast marker on the medium one.


Reaver 2 doubles forward to also get in the way on the Fighta-Bommerz, but doesn't have range to anything else.

Blitz Brigade 1 doubles forward and also catches Reaver 2 and Warlord 2 under two templates; the lesser Titan suffers three attacks and loses 1 Void shield while the greater Titan suffers four attacks and loses 2 Void shields.

Warhound Pack 1 advances, catching overwatch fire form Gunzmob 2, but they lose only a single Void shield and kill 1 Big Gun in return.

Gunzmob 1 doubles forward and *ALSO* gets Reaver 2 and Warlord 2 under two templates and now there are no Void shields left on either Titan!

Warlord 1 marches toward the Ork infested Cathedral.

The Warband advances on Warlord 1? and strips a single Void shield.

Blitz Brigade 2 doubles up and knocks the 5 remaining Void shields off of Warlord 1?

End of Turn

Despite jinking, 1 Fighta-bommer is shot down.

All AMTL formations rally, but few Void shields are generated.

Gunzmob 2 and the Stormboyz fails to rally for the Orks.

Turn 2

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: AMTL

Reaver 2 advances into perfect position and places a Blast marker on the Warband.

Warlord 1 makes a lateral move down the road to engage the intermingled Warband, Stompamob, both Blitz Brigades, as well as both Gunzmobs? with the bulk of the Orks obscured by the Cathedral? and the support of Reaver 2.

In spite of the *extreme* cheekiness of the Imperials, the Orks are able to inflict 3DC damage and a critical on the Warlord? but lose 3 Grots, 2 Nobz, and 7 Boyz in the meantime? while the rest of the Orks break and run in all directions.  (Wow, that might've been the most intermingled formations I, the King of Intermingling, ever had in one place!  I thought my massive body of fire would've been enough to stave off the Titans, but my opponents have learned from me? the Cads!  *laugh* Well played, Wanderer, very well played!)


Trying to get some measure of revenge, the Fighta-Bommerz dive on Warlord 1, but only place a Blast marker.

Reaver 1 doubles on Gunzmob 1 and destroys 3 of the Big Gunz.

The Kult of Speed doubles to dire on Warhounds 1 and takes down a Void shield.

Warlord 2 engages the broken Gunzmob 2, suffers 1 DC damage, but wipes out the Orky weapon platforms.


Warhound Pack 1 winds up taking a hold action, gaining a Blast marker and regrouping? to clear 1 Blast marker?

End of Turn

With an actinic flash of light and plasma Warlord 1 is vaporized? and the Orks cheer!

Another Fighter-Bommer is shot down, but the pilot dies happy.

All the surviving Titan formations rally.

Inspired by the death blossom of the mighty Warlord Titan, practically *all* the Ork formations rally!  The Stormboyz and remaining Gunzmob fails, but everyone else successfully rallies.  WAAAGH!

Warhound Pack 1 advances, rotating to bring their guns to bear on the Kult of Speed lurking in the scrub? and takes out 1 Warbike.

Blitz Brigade 1 doubles to hit Reaver 1 and Warlord 2, dropping a Void shield on the Warlord.

The Stompamob doubles up to do the same thing, but doesn't manage to score any hits this time.

Warlord 2 engages Blitz Brigade 1 with the support of Reaver 1 and wipes out the Ork vehicles.

Blitz Brigade 2 tries to bring their Supa-Zzaps to bear on Reaver 1? but miss.

Reaver 2 doubles up to fire on Blitz Brigade 2? and places a single Blast marker.

The Kult of Speed revs away from the enemy Titans and claims the AMTL Blitz.

Reaver 1 engages the intermingled Stompamob and tattered Warband with the support of Reaver 2.

The Orks get rid of all the Titan's Void shields, but are completely wiped out in the end.

The remaining Fighta-Bommerz dive down to strafe Warlord 2 and do a single DC of damage?

End of Turn:

All AMTL formations rally.

Again the Stormboyz fail to rally.

I still don't get the focus on Supa-Zzap guns... I retrospect I really wish all my Oddboyz had been Soopa-gunz.  Two MW barrage templates is fantastic!  You can put BMs on multiple formations, you can get multiple attack on Titans; with doubling and firing into cover, those Zzaps are only hitting on a 5+, and what if the opponent has no war engines?  I've always found Soopa-gunz to be the superior choice of weapon.

And to Gunzwagons, I'd rather have the 45cm shot to mitigate suppression of the Oddboyz weapons than the 30cm of Flakwagons and just to give me greater "reach" overall.

Yep, my opponent realized the error of his Blitz placement as soon as I placed my first objective on his side... *laugh*  Nice to know Titans can make mistakes...   :D

That battle was super close and was more of a "lucky win" for the Orks... if not for the Warlord BTS critical, I don't think many Greenskins would've survived the Turn 4 onslaught.

Tuned and tweaked, I think the "One Gun" Theory Titan army is unbalanced... a fun challenge to play against, but almost unstoppable in normal play.
