Hi all,
NOTE - the point behind the poll is a LOOONG way down after my rambling - if you're impatient, scroll all the way down to see what you're voting for!  :p
I've been toying with the idea of a new chapter for my remaining 40K space marines, and have decided that although I like the blue armour of Ultramarines, they're too rigid for my taste, and have recently taken to wearing too much gold!
So I plumped for an obscure chapter, the Polar Warriors, which are (perversely) seeing action on a desert planet. they have armour very close in colour to the ultramarines, are closely linked to some members of the Inquisition, and are apparently relatively few in number. Their origins are unknown and (due to their closeness to aforementioned Inquisitors) unquestionable. And yet... well, let's say they're prime candidates for spontaneous human combustion  :;):

Anyway - to get to the point - these chaps persist in wearing their blue armour; they use less polish and glitter than the Ultras, so the accumulated dust helps hide them a bit.  :p As for their tanks - should I paint them as blue as the marines, or give them sensible desert (sand colour) camo? Help me decide, please.  :D

Groan - I deserved this..... there's a history of past suggestions from me to CC to get both of whatever he's considering. Sigh!
Not a bad idea at all, though....  :D

I for one think CC's idea is grand V...

I really like the scheme on the MkVI but then I'm not the one who has to paint it so... :)

Now, I will admit that the current thinking behind Marine vehicles is colors to scare your opponent with (that he can see you coming in), as opposed to colors to scare your opponent with (where the %$!@#$!!!! did those Predators come from??!??).

Since most tanks don't have much capability for rapid deployment (yeah, yeah, LC, but those are not a preferred deployment method in 40k), I prefer the idea that Marine Tanks would be somewhat camo'd to reduce their casualties at long range (let's face it, Marine tanks don't have the same reach as their IG counterparts, so they need all the help they can get).

I will admit that the "Pred'kava" tanks I've been working on are likely to end up in a variation of the peadot ambush camo (DA Green, Euro Gray, and probably the red-brown I plan on using for the squad type markings.

Now if you played a sensible chapter like Dark Angels you wouldn't have this problem :;): :D

I agree - both!

Although, I'm not sure I would use a blue as bright as the Stuart's.

Ah ... Mk.VI, M3 Stuart/Honey and Marmon-Harrington ! Now that's desert camo !  As Tas said, do both and C/C showed ya how !  And Lion, I agree ... I can't imagine anyone being afraid/scared/intimidated by an Orange/Red/Circus colored AFV !!  :;):

Way I see it, the coax mounted MG on a brightly color tank is just as dangerous a coax mounted MG on a camo'd tank.  You'd just have more warning that's it's coming.

I voted camo though.

Sand coloured tanks, but with blue side doors to match the chapter colour. I always think it looks nice, and it fits with some index astartes articles I've seen.

I reckon from a realism point of view, sand coloured vehicles would be best. Chapters in the past (go back to early 90's, late 80's WD) used different colours for not just vehicles but armour also in campaigns which required it. If you're keeping the blue armour on your marines, perhaps you could 'dust' their armour up with the same sand colour you're using on your vehicles - that'll give you a bit of continuity.
