I was going through the NetEpic Imperial Guard armylists the other day and I noticed that the company card for Imperial Guard Land Raiders is missing. Has it been left out intentionally or by mistake?

Hi!
As far as I know and after consulting the original SM books. Land raiders are not an IG unit, but a SM unit. IG get the Leman russ, which, the SM do not.
Therefore its never been on our lists either.
Hope that helps.

in hindsight they do look rather fun, and I do like the concept of human mercenaries
I remember at the time thinking "so you (as in GW) couldn't be bothered (or afford) to make any new Ork models and only let them use Imperial equipment and troops instead!!!"

I look at the Humie Mercs as Imperial Special Forces, on clandestine ops, working for the Orks. ?But the Orks don't know they are really working for the Imperium. ?I even have a IG command figure on that Warband's Command stand. I have an Ogryn det., with this unit too. ?All in keeping with the SM1 templates/ rules.?I usually use that warband when I'm fighting Chaos, Eldar etc. Very Tom Clancy ? ...

Hi!

>>Yes, it does open some interesting options for a game. Like a mercenary company going "turncoat" in mid battle or a formation of mercenaries that "randomly" decide whose side they are one from turn to turn. Culd lead to some wierd, but fun games.
I remember at the time thinking "so you (as in GW) couldn't be bothered (or afford) to make any new Ork models and only let them use Imperial equipment and troops instead!!!"
>>Yeah, I think it was the former though, they were starting out as a mini company back then and there was just not enough types of units available for orks, or any army for that matter, so they needed to "improvise".
I miss GW's creative days...

slight correction there methinks
back then.... WD was ten years old and Citadel was older than WD... IIRC
Citadel/GW were not just starting out as a mini company, but had been for some time

OK, showing my age now... Citadel and GW actually started as different companies. GW was the shop front wing, and Citadel as the mini makers. At that point GW sold minis and games from other manufacturers too! Ten years ago, GW had been going about 13 years (25th Anniversary was2 years ago?).
WD has been going about 15 - 20 years (I have issue 96 somewhere, with the first Harelquin Jet Bike for Rogue Trader).

Hi!
Wrong use of words, Jimbo is correct.
I meant they were just starting out as the modern minis company they are today. WD, was a RPG mag and was around its first 100 issues and Citadel was around for several years selling "marauder" figures and warhammers earliest versions.
GW as we know it today, with the 40k background and games came into being when WD was in the #90's issues, which is around 1987-88. WD was approximately 9 years old by then. Citadel, i'm not sure, i would need to look at old dragon magazines, but I think they may be as old as 1983-84 (maybe even older). When Rogue trader was new I think Warhammer fantasy was in its third edition already. Some dont realize how much older fantasy is when compared to 40k. Adeptus titanicus was released December 1988 and first appeared in WD 109 (I'm holding it as we speak!!). So people also tend to forget that epic is GW's third oldest system, less than a year younger than 40k. Epic is about 14 years old, pretty old, eh?
Cybershadow is correct, they were for a time separate companies, or branches of a loosely organized larger company. I'm not sure preceisly when they "coalesced", but by 1988-89 it had happened.
Those were happy days
