I've been penning a few army lists at 3000pts, to take on NO-1 on the 8th (with either ulthwe or necrons).

In one of the lists I created a nid blitz brigade.  However it isn't the usual carnies and tryant, rather it was exocrines and a tyrant, with a few haurspex to act as ablative armour.

The brood consists of
1 Tyrant
2 Daco-exocrine
4 Lyco-ecorines
2 Haruspex

However, it feels wrong to be able to build such a force.  Despite the fact it contains 6 artillery bugs its movement is only restricted by the synpase creature leading it (15cm).

It has an impressive amount of firepower
1x 30cm AP5+/AT6+
2x 45cm 1BP(ie AP5+/AT6+) indirect fire, disrupt
8x 45cm MW5+ ignore cover
2x 20cm MW5+ ignore cover

All for 650pts.

So after all this rambling I think that exocrines should be movement 10, to balance out the firepower they can give out.

Any thoughts?

I'm not a 'Nid player but that doesn't look too bad when compared to a IG Tank Company. ?It seems to trade long range firepower for especially nasty short range firepower. ?But with a 15cm move you aren't always going to be able to hit the target you want with the BBBB(Big Bug Blitz Brigade)  :wow:

Mixing indirect fire weapons with non-indirect fire weapons is also not always the optimum combination IMO. ?The short range weapons will favour doubling/advancing towards the enemy, but the indirect fire weapons (usually) work best sitting behind some terrain on sustained fire.

The Daco-exocrines were included to add some BM laying capability.  The orginal swarm was just a group of Dacos and a LSN.  It then evloved into its present version.

However I can see the indirect fire bugs still being of use if the enemy is too far away to bring the lesser guns to bare.

I honestly think that the problem is their speed. (both versions of the exocrine) they are faster than carnies, which are assault creatures!!

2xMW5+ is fine at the range they are at, a good compramise for 1BP disrupt and indirect fire.

Should Carnifex have *gulp* infiltrator to represent them barrelling forward?!  That would *definitely* require a point increase!

I dunno. It would change the balance quite a much as then most of the cc nids would have infiltrate. Would it be too much? Definately then no FF, perhaps drop the second MW or hike up cost.

Well, close combat is what 'Nids are supposed to do best, no?  *laugh*

I've found that it's only the infiltrating Bugs that are even getting into hand-to-hand.  The rest are either shot or FFed to death... and it's frustrating as well as pushing me to take much shootier armies.

The Screamer-Killer stats would definitely have to be tweaked for that... losing one MW attack might do it, just to finally get one attack in!  *laugh*

Perhaps the Exocrines move could be dropped tp 15cm... But the main thing that I have is the feeling that once Hive Mind has one thing figured out, tis gets widely dispersed (eg. 4+RA on most armored critters, 20cm move on all "worms" etc.). Dropping exocrine move to 15 would kinda feel odd on that ground.

Since they are bio-tanks, I think they should be faster than foot-sloggers.  And with a 15cm move, they'd be almost garranteed to be garrisoned, instead of requiring a static Synapse Node to do it.

20cm is okay, I think it's the Carnies (S-K) that need a little work.

20cm move on all "worms"

Worms?  WORMS??  Your norn queens might still make worm style biotanks but mine are\looking into giving them legs. 6 for lyco and 4 for dacto (with the middle 2 being used as bio launchers).

Well they will do once the carnies are finished  So many conversions, so little time.

Definitely definitely no to infiltrate on carnis - what are you people thinking?? ?:8: :D ?

I think the various biotanks probalby do need tweaking, but I am uncertain as to what direction this should take at present.
