I repeat: get you a copy of Knoppix, a version of Linux. Download the ISO image from the web, burn to CD, boot to CD. Will not install ANYTHING (for those of you afraid of Linux installs, me included!  ) has a Windows like GUI, and will probably be able to read your data from the faulty drive, as long as it is not a physical drive problem. Find the data you need, move it to your other disk, then reboot to Windows. All done!
