Quote (stormseer @ 05 2003 June,11:41) | To justify the capacity reduction, you can say that the Thunderhawks need a more sophisticated system of launch, with more capcity taken up with fuel stores, boarding systems, drop pod racks for planetry assaults etc.... | Yep, that's exactly how I would have described why the reduction takes place in background terms. You have to wonder if GW read their own fluff sometimes

Quote (Jackhammer @ 06 2003 June,03:52) | You have to wonder if GW read their own fluff sometimes | Sadly this is becoming more and more true- especially with older material (ie RTrader, AT1 era) sometimes being forgotten or ingored. Its annoying, and you would think that the GW boyz would wade through their vast fluff tomes before they burst into print

What GW really needs is a continuity editor, like the StarWars expanded universe has- they ensure all the books line up together and there are no conflicts between what has happened in previous books....

Battlefleet Gothic: Armarda is a new 160 page suppliment covering all the ships and fleets released since the game began. This is instead of the 2003 Annual this year. Also this will stay in print, unlike the annuals.
It is due for release November/December this year, and rumour has it that it will have the Tau fleet list in it. Also it will be the landscape style like the rule book.
|
Hm. This leaves a question: considering I own Warp Storm, i there anything in the 2002 annual in addition to the ships, which will be covered in the Armada, and reprinted Warp Storm rules, which is worth paying ?12?

Quote (Tas @ 05 2003 June,01:49) | Tas said I'm looking forward to getting a copy. ?Especially with the CSM stuff. ?I have completed a nurgle strike cruiser conversion and am about halk way through a Chaos undivided Battlebarge conversion which should prove rather nasty too |
Unfortunately you may be disappointed. GW have been cleaning up their act as far as ship agaes are concerned. The latest UK white dwarf puts all the current SM ships as post heresy vessels and this is confirmed in the ultrasmurf article in BFG 15. The CSM article has CSM ships as all preheresy and they are exclusively the ships currently serving in the chaos fleets with leadership variations. Only the Thawk strangely gets included. You may thertefore be hardpushed to justify a SC and battlebarge conversion as they are now strictly post heresy.

Thanks for the heads up Bob- how typical of GW to change their fluff down the track...
Anyhow, vessels get boarded and captured so that is my justification in extremis!

You could just have them as being used be relativly new converts to Chaos- new renegade space marines as a simple solution, unless you have already painted it in CSM colours of course...

Overall I think there will be no problems. If you have a Chaos SM Battle Barge, just use it in your battles, and tell your opponent what it stands in for. Simple.
Cheers

What annoys me is that the fluff even says Horus and other bad guys had Battlebarges- after all its where the Horus v Emp showdown took place!!!!

There was some talk about this on the BFG list IIRC, and following that and what I can gather from various WDs, I reckon that the term "battle barge" was kinda generic at that period, and referred to any of the ships that the SMs were happening to use at that point in time eg Typhus' Terminus Est in the new WD is called a battle barge, but is apparantly a superior Despoiler......

Well if GW are going to be that fuzzy about their fluff then I'm not going to worry too much about fitting in with it. My gaming friends arent rules lawyers so It doesnt really matter anyway. And it IS such a nice model after all...
