Hi Guys,

I wanted to repost some quotes from Jervis:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been trying to avoid reading threads about lists I'm not working on yet, but with a subject line like this I just had to take a peek...

- The main reason for the 'generic' Tyranid models in the army list is that we are going to replace ALL of those OLD models with new sculpts.

A *lot* of work has been done of the Tyranids in 40K since those old Epic models were released, and now both I and the 40K design team are keen to update the Epic range so that it properly compliments what has been done for 40K. We've already started on this project, and some interesting early conceptual work has already been done.

- In time, once we've fully worked up what are at present rough concepts, the generic vehicles and WE in the Tyranid list will be REPLACED by datasheets BASED on the NEW concepts.

*However*, because we're doing NEW SCULPTS, at least initially there won't be a huge number of different types of unit. That's why the initial Tyranid army list works with a fairly small palette of units, and is based on a Tyraanid army in the early stages of its 'evolution' (i.e. One that has only just started to atack the Imperium).

Best regards,
Jervis Johnson, Head Fanatic.

Hi All,

Several Nid units are having the stats reviewed as well as the idea of possibly creating new units:

------

1. CF: does the Carnifex stink?

- The Carnifex is also regarded as being a near useless unit and several proposals have arisen how to toughen up the Carnifex and give it a viable role within the Tyranid army. A shooting version of the Carnifex is also desired.

------

2. GS: Genestealers - To Infiltrate or Not...

- Most players seem to agree that Genestealers should have the infiltrate ability and possibly a larger movement rating. A possible increase in point cost has also been considered.

http://forums.specialist-games.com/epic....ID=4391

------

3. HD & HS: Tyranid Tank Creatures...

- Tyranid tank-like creatures are being reviewed and the possibility of creating new bio-tanks has also come up. The idea of Nid bio-tank troop carriers has also come up.

------

4. HP: Hierophant truly a Bio-TITAN or a let-down...

- Bio-titans are also under review. There is a concensus that Bio-titans are too weak and several proposals have been made how to toughen them up.

-------

5. SN: Tyranid Synapse Nodes...

- This is probably the biggest "bugbear" unit in the new Nid list. It is almost universally regarded as far too tough and availible and most proposals for the unit involve reducing its' DC, increasing its' point cost or making it less availible. Removing the teleport ability has also been considered. Several threads have discussed the Synapse Node.

-------

- COMMENTS WELCOME: All playtesters are welcomed to add their comments or other wise participate in the process.

- NEW NID ARMY LIST: A new and revised Tyranid army list is in the process of being written.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I thought I should send a follow up to the my earlier mail that is posted above.

Unfortunately, the re-structuring of Fanatic means that I am not going to be able to do an 'all-new' Tyranid army as I had first planned. Instead we will be re-releasing the exisiting (E-40K) range. Although this is not quite as exciting as making new models, it does make it easier to come up with and start testing the Tyranid list, and should allow us to make the army available again sooner than we had previously planned.

The main exception to this are the Synapse Nodes, which I think it is important that we include, even if we have to tell players how to scratch-build them themselves. We can consider including other new units, but if we do this we need to make sure that they really are _needed_, rather than just being included to add a bit of variety or because they seemed like a cool idea.

Hi Guys,

There have been a number of changes in the 'Nid army lists from way back in v2.0 to the present v5.35 (28 May 2005). The next version will be v5.40 incorporating the changes below and a few more...

Among them:

- Gaunts were split into Hormagaunts and Termagants by popular request.

- A new Bio-arty unit will enter the list around v5.40 or so that will be an intermediate Bio-arty unit inbetween the Biovore and Expectorator. It will be called the Exocrine.

- Synapse Nodes are set to finally recieve some long-needed adjustment. SNs will be split up into two classes with limitations on each.

- Many of the list units have seen their stats change while play balancing of the unit is being worked on. Lictors and Raveners have been focussed on as very popular and much used units that need to be adjusted for play balance.

- Bio-Titans received two new weapons called Gargantuan Claws and Cluster Spines. Both weapons are reserved for large Bio-beasties!

- I am considering adding a regeneration mechanism to allow Bio-titans to "heal."

- The 'Nid respawning mechanism is being worked on extensively. Right now, WEs that are also Brood units can be regenerated at one respawn pip per DC...

- Tyranid GT goals are being looked into and playtested and will probably be written into the v5.40 list for more general playtesting.

- Many other things are being revised, edited and otherwise improved for future playtest versions...

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
