In the right circumstances, they make great bait for landing craft full of space marine infantry and tanks... once. I’m pretty sure that a Marine player would take that bait every time Vindicated by a neutral party! |

Crisis Cadre (Shas’o, Crisis Suits) 400 Crisis Cadre (Crisis Suits) 325 Fire Warrior Cadre/Foot (Broadsides, Skyray, Bonded Team) 500 Fire Warrior Cadre/Mounted (Pathfinders, Skyray, Bonded Team) 450 Stealth Suit Group 225 Recon Skimmer Group (4 Tetra, 2 Piranha) 175 Recon Skimmer Group (4 Tetra, 2 Piranha) 175 Armor Support Group (7 5 Railgun) 275 Orca 150 Orca 150 Barracuda Squadron 150 Total 2975 There’s a few things that are compromise solutions, but overall I’m okay with it. You have 11 activations and 6 are off board. You will have to play it extra defensive. Every opponent will be able to deploy in response to your deployment. Plan on playing with only half the table or a quarter and don't spread out. Place your objectives deep into your opponent's area and close to the Blitz. This will keep any garrisons away for one turn. They will most likely place their two objective in your half close to the 50. Don't garrison on top of them or don't garrison at all. The smart player will cut your activation count by breaking your smaller units. If anything fails to activate from off board, its going to be a rough turn 1. The recon detachments will get abused straight away, expect to lose them. In my experience low activation Tau are a trick list. You will give up and deny objectives. While the list grants you the other objectives. Its all well and good until the dice fail or someone knows the trick. I prefer a list with tactical flexibility. I would study objective placement Vs 1st turn results. Then step back and think how you would beat the list if you were facing it. |

So I’m considering Building that DKoK army I’ve always wanted after the Tau are done. I already have a sizable Baran army, so I want to concentrate on an aggressive list instead of a list that hangs around in the trenches, waiting for the enemy to reach assault range. So far I’m thinking: Regimental HQ (Seige Transport) 600 Infantry Company (Seige Transport, Heavy Tank) 625 Infantry Company (Seige Transport) 500 Heavy Tank Platoon (Vanquisher Command) 325 Heavy Tank Platoon (Vanquisher Command) 325 Heavy Support Battery (Hydras, Emplacements) 125 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Death Rider Scout Platoon (150) Death Rider Scout Platoon (150) Only 9 Activations. Three are massive Death Stars, two are fairly survivable, four are very squishy. Questions: Are Death Riders worth it? I have a pair of FW Warhounds I’ve never used, is this a good place? Should I ditch what little artillery I have unless I decide to lean into it more? |

Nothing? I’m still going through permutations in my head, though I think I’m settled on: RHQ (Gorgons) 600 Infantry Company (Gorgons) 500 Infantry Company (Gorgons) 500 Heavy Tank Platoon (Vanq) 325 Heavy Tank Platoon (Vanq) 325 That leaves 750 in flex slots. Option A: Heavy Support Battery (Hydras, Trojans) 150 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Option B: Heavy Support Battery (Hydras, Trojans) 150 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Super Heavy Tank Platoon (Shadowsword) 200 Super Heavy Tank Platoon (Shadowsword) 200 Option C: Heavy Support Battery (Hydras, Emplacements) 125 Heavy Support Battery (Hydras, Emplacements) 125 Heavy Support Battery (Earthshakers, Emplacements) 200 Grenadiers Platoon (Centaurs) 300 I don’t think any of these are obviously bad. They would each bring their own feel to the army, while retaining a core group of massed Infantry and WE that would be difficult to deal with. Strategy would lean towards BTS, Blitz, and TNH, with DTF and TSNP being tough sells in most cases, I’d think. I have no aircraft and, using A or C, limited artillery to run interference on my side of the table. On the other hand, I think I’d be able to deny DTF, TSNP, and BTS fairly reliably. |
