Post subject:  Starting Tau force
So I am thinking of picking up some OTC to build a Tau force and this was going to be a starting 2000pt force.

Any suggested changes?

I like adding Broadsides to a Fire Warrior formation but you want to add them to a ground based fire warrior formation, not a mechanised one - the Broadsides would slow them down otherwise. With no fast moving units aside from a Skyray the 8 strong fire warrior formation can then garrison forward in cover on overwatch.

I think you are a little light on markerlights. For me the least effective (most situational)
formation on your list are the Tiger Sharks and Drones. Cool to use but, . . . .
A second pathfinder formation or some Tetra/Piranha formation(s) to support the tanks.

You have quite a lot of AA for 200 points but I'd probably at least have Skyrays with both
Fire Warrior formations. Never could bring myself to use the Ion gun on Hammerheads.
The Fusion gun is a challenge to get into range but has been surprisingly effective.

I'd definitely put the Bonded Team on the BTS formation. But what about upgrading (as it
were) to an Ethereal - Fearless AND Leader to help keep blast markers down.

Having just four Crisis Suits (who are not fearless so easy to kill when broken - surprisingly
easy to do) has always been more of a crisis for me rather than the enemy! With the recent
changes (AT6+ added to plasma rifle, and a cheaper pair, 2 for 75 points) perhaps you might try:

6 Crisis Suits, Shas'el [325]
8 Fire Warriors, Ethereal, 3 Broadsides, Skyray [525]
6 Fire Warriors, 3 Devilfish, Skyray [325]

4 Pathfinders, 2 Devilfish [200]
4 Fusion Hammerhead, Skyray [300]
4 Tetra, 2 Piranha [175]

2 Barracuda [150]


Dropping a Skyray on the mechanised fire warriors would allow for an extra Hammerhead
and a couple of stands of Gun Drones (for the BTS and maybe the Crisis suits).
Or dropping the Skyray from the tanks to allow an upgrade to a Hammerhead Railgun
formation (+25 pts base cost and 50 points for an extra Hammerhead) and some Gun Drones
to beef out the BTS formation.

You know if you get the few extras just right you could have all the flexibility for a 2000 point
force AND an actual 3000 point army, . . . . For The Greater Good, . . . obviously.

Even more good suggestions. As nice as the Tigersharks are I will leave them for a larger list.
