Post subject:  Commissar placement within infantry formations?

I was looking at a number of posts recently and I am still divided on where to place my commissars in infantry formations. I am really starting to lean towards placing them with my command unit. It really takes advantage of the macro attack in CC although I am putting my eggs in one basket as a result.

Also I saw someone mention that you would only have one leader if placed in the SC unit but after reading the rules I don't really agree with this as it says per "leader" and not per unit.

Quote:
2.1.8 Leaders: Some units or characters are noted as being leaders. A formation that includes any leaders may remove one extra Blast marker for each leader whenever it regroups or successfully rallies.

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. :)

The FAQ states you remove an extra BM for each unit with the leader ability, hence you can't stack multiple leaders on a single stand

Overall I think having a fearless supreme commander is worth losing the second leader, unless there are ogryns added to the formation, in a regular infantry company there is no disadvantage to adding commissars to command stands as they don't have leader anyway

See the first FAQ for 2.1:

Commissar's Leader doesn't stack with the Leader from the SC ability.

I usually put my Commissars on Commander and SC stands, purely for the fluff. Gotta shoot those officers if they don't charge headlong at the enemy.

yeah a fearless SC in a guard force (Assumes SL) is not usually a bad thing for obvious reasons. As Kyuss points out above, the Commander units don't have leader anyways so no loss there.

i always went with the belief that character upgrades are to be placed within the core formation units not in other upgrades..

the rules and restrictions and lists being used in a tournament are the purview of the organizer(s). So either this was one of those situations OR the organizer was simply incorrect in their ruling. However there's no such rule in the EA game. There may be limitations in individual list design that provides limitation to where you put things (example: The Penal Legion list actually prevents purchased Commissars from being added to the Penal Trooper units or that in Steel Legion the first commissar MUST go in the same stand as the SC).

ok. thanks. was playing steel legion. so for some strange reasons i unnecessarily mutilated my ogryn stands by cutting away the commissars afterwards. sucks..

Whoops! Forgot to read the fine print. Thanks guys. And the fluff aspect sounds great. It's a good thing I have round bases so the commissar can be situated right behind the commander to keep him in line! ;D

Also I agree with jimmy, although SL legion says first commissar must be placed on SC's formation first, and not specifically the unit.

That was the case for Chaos Space Marines (still is in the Epic-UK list) not sure if NetEA still has that stipulation.
