So I'm putting together an EC army(see TOEG) and was wondering if any veteran EC players(or people who've played against them) could give me some advice on how to play them. It seems that whilst they have some excellent units they may have problems dominating the battlefield, given the lack of cheap scouts, flyers, artillery, Tec. How do EC players get around these problems and would you say the EC are best designed around assaults, counterattacking, short ranged fire or as a mix? Can taking lots of demons be a good tactic? Not looking to do a tourney winning army just be interested in people's thoughts on how to at least do the army justice. On paper they look less straightforward then say eldar, orks or guard. This is the list I'm thinking of for 2k: EMPERORS CHILDREN RETINUE [305] Chaos Lord, 6 Noise Marines, 3 Rhino EMPERORS CHILDREN RETINUE [300] Chaos Lord, 6 Noise Marines, Daemonic Pact (includes 1 lesser daemon) DEFILER PACK [275] 4 Defilers CHAOS SPACE MARINES [275] 6 Chaos Marines, 3 Rhinos, Daemonic Pact (includes 1 lesser daemon) ARMOURED COMPANY [225] Chaos Land Raider, 3 Chaos Predator SUBJUGATOR TITAN [225] QUESTOR TITAN [275] DAEMON POOL [120] 8 Lesser Daemon |

This looks like the epicUK list.... I think generally the EC list revolves around terminators, bikes, knights and questors, their retinues are okay but lack the resilience of the DG/TS or the numbers of BL so it falls to the bikes and terminators to do the heavy lifting in terms of assaults, the knights and questors speed round softening up stuff for the retinues to finish off and providing support fire where possible |

On the daemon front, a pool of ~8 should see you through in a 3k game.... you will summon 4 on average so that gives you enough for two assaults on turn 2 + whatever is left for turn 3 |

Thanks for your advice. Whilst I agree the EC retinues aren't as strong as others the mounted demonettes are 3+CC first strike and I think they could work together nicely. I can see 8 being a good number in 3k. I had kind of discounted termies and bikes as they looked somewhat pricey but will give them a look(and they're had to judge without game time) first strike bikers does look appealing. Can just can see the EC termies breaking rather easily given a bad teleport roll... Demon knights do look great for mobile firepower so I'll need to maybe look into some proxies. |

If you can't find/want to pay the going rate I'd expect some Slaneshi 40k bitz say stuck on some of those TMG War Stalkers and appropriately garish painting would work. |
