In the past, as some of you may remember, I've had some success running a Black Templars army. Now after a lengthy time away from Epic (A result of multiple Spawnings and players moving away to Nottingham to start "Dream jobs" - The selfish barstards!) opportunity has once again raised it's head to play this most satisfying of table-top wargames.

The list below uses the E-UK Adeptus Astartes list and is based on the same principals that the Black Templar list I used to run was based on. So lots of spaceship, drop pod, "In yo faces biatches!" Space Marine action. It just does it better than the templars (Who's only real advantage over standard marines IMO is the LR Crusader).

Adeptus Templars!, 4000 POINTS

Whatcha think? C&C welcome, especially if they lead to a good tactics discussion. :)

Try with the Dark Angels; AT4+/AP4+ devs and landspeeders with inv. save.

Also, get yourself over to Mansfield now and again.

Edit: also, Black Templars can't take titan allies, can they?

mike, he's using the codex list rather than black templars ;)

I like the look of it Stomp :) I'd be keen to try something similar myself

You need to go double Landing Craft and follow Bob's example of old.

4k, thinking of getting a pass out to Britcon?

I've been looking at the events schedule of late and they're all too far for me. Brit-con is always a bugger for me too, as it's nearly always on my Wedding Anniversary weekend (Doh!) I could probably make it this year but outright refuse to pay £50 for what is essentially Gaming Hall rental. If the price came down, or if food and drink were included then I'd be there like a shot (N.b. Someone make a convincing argument to me, regarding Brit-con, lol! No seriously.)

As it is I'm off down to Nottingham with Si, to see Chris and the Rug man for some gaming down at Mantic (Where I may very well purchase a copy of Deadzone for not much more than the cost of a Brit-con ticket) in early September. Anyone want to join us?

Might very well be getting myself down to Mansfield a bit more often though. I'd have been looking at the schedule, but there haven't been too many events there that have tied in well with my schedule.

Back on topic:

Dual LC is what I run when using BTs. It's ok but does have some very hardcounters. I think in terms of damage done and tactical flexibility then Terminator/ TH is better point for point. For example depending on the army I'm facing I can: teleport and use the THs as bombers or on pick up duty, planetfall, or go down the traditional air assault route.

TBs and Warhounds are just too good a force multiplyer to pass up. For 700 pts would you rather have a LC & LRCs or a Warhound pack (Which makes for quite a nice BTS in an army where the BTS is nearly always the one that includes your commander) and a squadron of Thunderbolts?

Also, Bob can't be used as an example. Bob's luck with dice in big events is untrue. Would you believe that at club level he got thrashed with that BT list almost everytime he brought it out to play. Lol, the dice gods do indeed favour that lad when he's at an event.

Did someone say DAs? *Dashes over to army builder to play around*

Make sure you look at the latest version of the EUK DA list. It allows you to take DA fighters, if still keeping titans out of the list.

Well the BHGS are running the £5 voucher scheme again this year, which means you get £5 back as long as you spend £10 with a trader on site.

The ticket cost covers hire of the rooms for 4 days, hire of all the tables, prizes etc. To call it a con is a little harsh I feel. But your views differ and that's fine.

It might be a bit of Trek from Manchester for a Thursday evening! Unless of course any of you need a Boiler fitting one Thursday in which case it could be a work trip (And thus tax deductable - yay!). Oh, yeah, I'm a Plumber/Gas Engineer now. Another reason that I've not been around too much for Epic gaming. Setting up a business is HARD work! Good though. :)

Why not try out some Marine heavy armour or arty Instead of the Warhounds? for no reason apart from "more marines"! I've been tinkering with the Space Wolves list....

In my first 3 drafts of this bad boy I did include Land Raiders. I fecking love Land Raiders! Particularly of the Crusader variety but normal LRs are good too. I dropped them in the end though because of theme. I'd need to get a Landing Craft to follow the theme and the costs were stacking up. You just can't compete with Warhounds and Thunderbolts for value in the marines list. Whirlwinds I also really like but I don't have any models and availability is a bit of an issue now that GW have given us the unpleasant finger of cavity exploration :/ Also, I can't afford any models at the minute, as I'm saving up for a Brit-con ticket! :p The Warhound pack also makes such a good BTS in a marine army which really struggles for a decent sized BTS that will actually contribute, rather than just sit on the Blitz and look threatening with it's lone Hunter.

I have Predator Destructors though, do I get Rug points for that? ;D

There's a Space Wolf list? I have been away for a while! Next you'll be telling me that there's an Alaitoc list too!

I've got a few more evil 4000pt lists I've been working on. Particularly Necrons. Anyone want to see?

4k Necrons only count if you're taking 4 Pylons

There actually is an Alaitoc list now actually!

I'd be very much up for the September mantic thing, i can even bring my Deadzone Plague.

I might actually have some of the metal whirlwinds unassembled available if you'd be interested?

Cool, cool!

PM me your E-mail address Mike and I'll add you to the mailing list (Although it's rather slow at the moment. As I'm sure Steve can confirm, waiting to hear from Curis can be a bit of a test....).
