So i decided i love phoenix Bombers, i know there are better units and that they are expensive an vulnerable. But i´ll try to make them work. Moscovian seems to swear by them, im curious if he can elaborate. ;D

Read both these threads in detail:

How to use bombers in 3000pt (competitive) tournament game?

So the question is, how can they be used in such a way that makes their points back.

Do they work best with StormSerpents, Vampires or Wave Serpents style armies?

Better to take 1, or 2, and should they be used along with fighters or alone?

What units and tactics mix well with them?

* * *

Basically what im asking is, if you had to use them, how would you do it?

Well, put simply, use them to kill or break things :)

Their tactical advantage is that they can strike anywhere on the board. They are reasonably resilient so should be able to handle light flak.

You could use them to take out artillery before it gets to make a mess of your important units. That can be important for Eldar, especially if you don't have access to a Void Spinner. But they're just as good at tearing chunks from mechanised formations hiding behind terrain. Later in the game they are great at hunting broken formations, even ones with several units remaining (disrupt plus a decent number of normal shots).

They can also double as interceptors if you're desperate.

thats pretty much what i was thinking,

I can use 2 formations of falcons with 2 firestorms each and try to use the bombers within theyr AA bubble, that way each falcon formation fires 4 shots for an average 2 hits on any interceptors.

That still leaves all the ground AA to deal with, and probably from the second turn onwards its likely that the supreme commander reroll has to be used to make sure they enter play.

Well if im making all that effort to rule the skyes, maibe i should bring a second bomber squad, and maibe one loaded Vampire raider as well, and that makes 1/3 of the air third.

Then for the rest i could either go with storm serpents of alternatively, guardians in wave serpents.

that would be an unorthodox Biel-tan list, wonder if it would work half decently :P

What everyone else said. Phoenix bombers are also the ones you send when you absolutely have to get through a flak screen. 5+ RA is great, and even two bombers can do some damage. Mixed formations are by far the most susceptible, but the fact that they can hit AP and AT and fire with BP weapons and act as interceptors in a pinch is awesome.

IIRC you can jink and still get a 4+/5+ roll in case there are some woefully accurate flak shots coming your way.

As a side note, I think Phoenix bombers are more useful in larger games (4000+) because not only do you have the extra points to play with but those boards tend to be more target rich.

Note there seems to be a general agreement to reduce the price - 400 is just a tad too expensive.
At 350, I would consider a formation each of Nightwings and Phoenix, at 300 (current E-UK price, which seems to little) I would even consider 2x Phoenix, to be sure that at least one activates as required.

They effectively replace Void Spinners in armies other than Biel Tan, and the additional firepower against mixed formations is huge, as others have said. To that extent they are a deep strike option rather than an interceptor, that work very well within an AA bubble, but can survive moderate AA outside.
