what's going in the landing craft?

I'd also suggest a thawk for the terminators, as my good friend and all-round epic supergenius dptdexys would say 'unless your opponent has nightwings, DON'T teleport!'

edit: also, I wouldn't think it's ideal to have the supcom in the terminators.... what about moving the hunter to the naked Devs and sticking him there? they'd make a solid blitz guard who can speed out on T3 if required, that way you can send the termies in without them A) being your BTS and B) losing your supreme commander in a botched assault

I'd also probably take the librarian out of the devs and put a chaplain in with the termies, but that's just me... the extra MW attack is really nice, and the +1 combat res has saved my bacon on multiple occasions!

edit2: missed the planetfall thing, sorry about that.... still a big risk having terminator BTS with the supreme commander....

edit3: thinking about it now, I really like podding assault cannon dreads in with devs, they make a decent assault formation for not a ridiculous amount of points, and then the devs can hug the dreads for cover, I'd be tempted to take the dread from the scouts and give it to a dev formation, then drop the hunter from the predators and use the points to buy a second dread.... although I'm not hugely familiar with the NetEA lists....

it would be very helpful if we had an idea of your overall plan for the list too :)

Well I'm attempting to go with a super aggressive play style in these lists I'm working out in the thread. (kinda fits with BA fluff anyways). Specifically in the Planetfall list I am thinking along the lines of loading the termies and the death company up into the LC along with the Baal preds. Orbital bombard (based on terrain) to either soften targets or hamper the enemy's ability to counter attack. Use the LC to prep the target and also position is as a LOS terrain block (being a WE and all). I figured the Chappy in the Death Company is a nice commander and depending on how I position can get some monsterous supporting fire in assaults or if needed, one hell of a massive formation .

The Baal preds provide some armor support and are nasty to deal with and we get a bit of an AA umbrella from the hunter. All this typically deep in the enemy's arse. Was thinking a vindi might be nice to stick in there as well and would fill out the LC.

The scouts and WW are typical onboard deployments, hopefully with good cover and mutual support. The dred there gives them a wee bit more firepower.

The two devestator detachments would work in tendem and depending on terrain and / or opponent would likely be poded into the fight. I can always take them in Rhino's and march into cover on T1 if needed where they're a tough nut to crack. This ability to field as Mech Infantry was why I didn't add the dred here though if I was guaranteed to pod them in, it'd get slotted here.

This is pretty aggressive and in your face but without heavier support the BA really need to get the opponent on their back foot or they're toast, I expect. That's my thinking at least.

Can always replace SC with two chappy's and slot into the devs and termies instead

I don't really feel qualified to comment, but...

My only thought is, with the SC in termies you won't be able to use the reroll until he arrives. Might force you to deploy earlier than preferred. I've been holding mine off for a couple of turns finding my opponents fear of a teleport is almost as effective as the actual assault (particularity as my terminators seem to use big foam hands from football games rather than powerfists :)

Course, if your are going all out assault turn 1 then this is irrelevant.

Will be reading thread for further tips.

Add in some Thunderhawk Transporters maybe? Blood Angels are big on using them.

v2.12 (Compendium) doesn't have transporters. That a newer addition to the list?

I'm not sure, I'm not interested in collecting them so I'm not familiar with the epic list.

I'm just going by 40k. The current Blood Angel Codex has them tactically making a lot of vehicle drops into combat by THT. In the Codex the THT isn't a unit but allows their Land Raiders and other vehicles to deep strike, but this could/should be represented properly in epic.

from my own experience with orbital insertion marines, I will say a supreme commander is pretty much essential, if you bring the spaceship on, drop your army and then fail to retain, you're sitting in a hugely vulnerable position!

I'd still say keep him out of the terminators, and those termies badly need a chaplain! other than that, give it a go!

Hi,

I'm a new EpicArmageddon BA player -i will play against Baran SM, Salamanders ,AMTL mainly. I need some help, how to play with BA's..

I had 3k test games against Baran, and i lost badly. My opponent had some 4x3 AAguns, 2x2 Tbolts, and 4x3 howitzer, and a lot of Thudd guns..

It was very hard to get close to him, even with Thawks, because of the heavy AA cover, and when i was there, he just sustained fire me back to Baal :) It was hard to play against 15 activations, bunkers, and trenches..

By the way, do you use Hunters? Seems sh_t to me for-75p = 60cm 1x AA4+. Baran 100p -3x 60cm AA5..Eldar firestorm -50p -2x AA4+! I think it's a bit to expensive next to other AA units..

I think you're paying for the 60cm AA bubble with them. Most AA is 45cm (or less)

Struggling to come to grips with this list as well so don't feel bad!

Some 'spitballing' thoughts:-

The more of the army that you air-drop / planetfall, the more binary a game becomes: you either win big or lose big. This is because if your initial assaults and plans do not work out, you will have put most or all of your main assets in a position for your opponent to sustain on. So,

Blip's thoughts about keeping the termies as a "threat in being" is valid, because this will tend to paralyse the opponent allowing you to keep the battlefield initiative. Also, consider dropping your initial formations in a position to bombard the opposition rather than assaulting outright will do the same thing while allowing you both to support and spread out the timing of the assaults.

To do this you could swap around the way you intend to build up the threats. For example start with one formation of Devastators in a Thunderhawk, the Whirlwinds in the Landing Craft in the Spaceship and the Baal Death company on the table along with the Devs + Dreads. Turn #1, the Landing Craft drops the Whirlwinds into a position 80 cm from the target area of the enemy army so they can sustain from turn #1. After the bombardment has (hopefully) suppressed some of the AA, the THawk lands the Devs in a position to fire on the target area and later in the turn, Death company marches into the THawk and the Devastators + Dreads double and embark onto the Landing Craft to allow the actual assaults to take place in turn #2.

Note, you have to tailor the strategies and tactics to suit the opponent. Attacking a Baran's siege army in fortifications needs slightly different tactics. The large numbers of enemy means that they will be spread out, something you can be exaggerate by separating your T&H objectives. This allows you to concentrate on one side of the Baran army to threaten one of them and the Blitz.

Try to gain and then exploit a toe-hold in the fortifications (which the siegies will usually find difficult to dislodge). If you can destroy any fast formations and protect your own objectives, you are already 2-0 up (defend the flag and They shall not pass), and potentially you can kill his BTS with a suicide assault if you can ensure a high assault resolution advantage to add hack-downs to the assault kills.

Thanks, i will consider these thoughts.
my planned army against Baran:

DEATH COMPANY [425]
Chaplain, 4 Tactical Death Company units, 2 Furioso Dreadnought

THUNDERHAWK [200]

ASSAULT DETACHMENT [575]
6 Assault Units, 2 Assault Units, Supreme Commander, 2 Furioso Dreadnought

THUNDERHAWK [200]

ASSAULT DETACHMENT [250]
6 Assault Units

ASSAULT DETACHMENT [250]
6 Assault Units

TERMINATOR DETACHMENT [350]
4 Terminators

LAND SPEEDERS [200]
5 Land Speeder

THUNDERBOLT FIGHTERS [175]
2 Thunderbolts

PREDATORS [375]
4 Baal Predator, Blood Angels Hunter

my opponent uses big, upgraded infantry companies, thudd guns, lasers, lot of small formations of AA, and artillyery. 15+ activations, and a small scout tank/ragnarok unit.. Lots of trenches, bunkers, razorwire. 2 or more formations of Tbolts -usually.

I plyayed a few battles against him, and the dreadnoughts worked fine, with an air assault, they are excellent for me :) The DC is capable of destroying a whole infantry company in one CC, it's an amazing unit!

How do you plan on getting all the Assault formations into combat as they can't all fit in T/hawks.

Post subject:  Re: NetEA Blood Angels 3k/4k Lists

They are like a second wave, part of a ground force.. They are mobile, and can be a threat, because of their speed.. I try to get close to the enemy with as many units and as fast as possible. The higher number of targets, the higher chance to survive. maybe it works, maybe not. :)
