Attachment: Hey community, I am currently building up a Titan Legion (netea army compendium 2012 list). I read loads of articles during the last weeks, but actually I am wondering about the best strategy when including an Imperator battle titan. This Saturday a friend of mine and I are going to fight a 5k points battle. I want to field the following troops, as they are what I already got painted (and converted as far as possible). Attachment: EMPEROR TITAN [1350] Imperator Configuration, Legate, Carapace Multi-Lasers WARLORD TITAN [975] Corvus Assault Pod, Laser-Blaster, Volcano Cannon, Gatling Blaster, Carapace Multi-Lasers REAVER TITAN [750] Apocalypse Rocket Launcher, 2 Laser Blaster REAVER TITAN [750] 2 Volcano Cannon, Apocalypse Rocket Launcher WARHOUND TITAN [275] Vulcan Megabolter, Plasma Blastgun WARHOUND TITAN [275] Vulcan Megabolter, Plasma Blastgun FORGE KNIGHTS [375] 6 Forge Knights THUNDERBOLTS [150] 2 Thunderbolts SKITARII DEMI-CENTURY [100] Tech Priest, 9 Hypaspists SKITARII DEMI-CENTURY [100] Tech Priest, 9 Hypaspists My strategy would be forming three strike-groups, based on equipment and speed. The Warlord got an assault pod in order to add another skitarii demi-century for capturing objectives and defending the battle titan against enemy infantry in close combat. The Warlord, combined with the Imperator (same speed) and their supporting infantry squads should cross the battlefield to charge the objective on my enemies side. the weapons are good against everything i guess (perhaps u know a better use for the Imp.), so they need no further support. Both Reavers will hunt enemy titans and tank formations, whilst supported by the forge knights. The Warhounds will hunt enemy artillery and try to attack formations as long as they won´t get too much fire in return. The Thunderbolts are obviously for hunting enemy air craft. The Skitarii infantry may also capture an objective, while my opponent spends too much attention on destroying the Imperator. Thats my plan. What do you think? Titan legions are fairly slow armies so you probably won't have a lot of charging. Get the imperator somewhere it can dominate the field and let it sit preferably on an objective. It probably won't need a lot of support of you have a Demi century with it. The warlord would probably make a good blitz guard and still be able to cover the imperator. You can expect the forge knights to be useful only once in the game. They can be really hard hitters but they break easily and once broken the formation just evaporates. Your plan is pretty good for the warhounds, just keep them and all your titans in cover as much as possible. The minus one to hit in invaluable. |

The Titans can usually break anything they can see, but on a field with even a little terrain, they are too few to go everywhere; In order to achieve formation kills, you need something that can chase down and wipe out broken formation. In the absence of indirect artillery, your best bet is superior airpower. You'll typically have fewer activations than your opponent, so anything that can break more than one formation at once is worth its weight in gold; The massive Imperator barrage is good at catching clumped-up enemies, but more barrage weapons is definitely a plus. At the very least, it forces the opponent to spread out, reducing the opportunity for commander-led combined engagements, and limiting the effect of support fire. Again, in the absence of artillery, your best bet is bombers. In my experience, the Forge Knights, while pretty and iconic, are close to useless. The sentinels, however, while fragile, provide cheap activations, screens against teleporters, prep fire ability and general area control. They will probably die, but whatever kills them will probably be more expensive, and sitting in the open under the titan guns afterwards. Imperator-mounted skitarii are great as an engagement deterrent (and nothing short of another Titan Legion kills an Imperator through shooting) - the Imperator isn't really that great in CC, and benefits from the extra FF and CC firepower and ablative wounds the Skitarii brings. However, the Warlord is perfectly capable of defending itself in CC, especially if you give it a TCCW (insted of the Corvus pod). You probably won't get to engage with it anyway, slow Titans need engagement capability for defense only. Summa: In your case, I'd - Remove the Forge Knights, the Warlord Corvus pod and one Skitarii demi-century - Get a CCW for the Warlord - Add one more T'Bolt segment, and a Marauder segment. - For the spare points, get Sentinel formations. An important part of playing a Titan list without artillery is placement of objectives. Be sure to put both T&H objectives close to the center line, as close to each other as possible, and in positions where the point between them have a good field of fire (because that's where the Imperator should be, at the end of turn 2 or 3). Ideally, it should be able to target at least one of the Blitz objectives (your own or your opponents). And yes, this telegraphs your intentions, but it is hard to be sneaky with a 400 foot War Engine... |

Thanks so far. My enemy will field his Imperial Guard. Actually, I already thought about adding mor f(ly)ire-power to my army, but the two scratch builts are the only ones available right now. Thanks for your advice ceeping the Warlord apart from my Imperator titan. Could have bound a lot of firepower at one point, without any further use. In generl we will play on an relative small battlefield (4GW battlefield modules). So even the slow speed of my bigger titans will be enough to cross the field to get nearly everywhere to capture one ore more of the three objectives. btw.: which one of my warlords weapons would you exchange for a close combat weapon? I think the gatling blaster is s+++, but its basically sold with the pewter monster. Guides me to my last Question: As many told me, sentinels would be a great deal. Do you know a nice proxy cast in resin or sth? I absolutely hate pewter^^ |

The configuration in your list only have 3 main weapons plus the CML. Just replace the Corvus pod with a Titan CCW. To add to other peoples advice: Don't bother with Maruaders; they're terribly over costed; get another set of tbolts instead! |

I'm always very happy with mine; 6BP delivered anywhere on the table is just the thing for chasing stragglers - in particular, the ability to guarantee 2 blast markers (thus, 1 dead Marine) is awesome. T'Bolts doesn't come with the same guarantee, and can't hit two formations simultaneously either. |

I think to understand both of you, guys. In my opinion units and formations at first view seem to be a little too overpriced, can be quite efficient and worth their cost in specific army lists. Of course I have no experience in fielding a Titan legion, but the lack of weaponry further reaching than 90cms combined with the relative slow Titans Is quite a Problem. As I wrote, we are going to play on a 120x120cm table, which is not that large at all. Never the less I think, there can be some trouble with artillery etc. in the opposite corner of the table, unreachable for my titans during the first two turns. So the Question is: marauders or another Reaver instead, armed with support missiles (or at least one to hit distant targets during turn one). Another Question: Is the Warmonger worth its cost in normal 4-turn games? My impression is a waste of 4 support missiles, as u are only allowed to fire one per turn. |

This came out a bit too disparaging - T'bolts are great, too, they are a cheap activation and provide AA as well. The easy answer, of course, is to bring artillery of your own; 2 Quake cannon + 1 Corvus landing pad on either a Reaver or a Warlord is an excellent standoff platform, to the point where it is roundly decried as "cheesy", "boring", and "autoinclude". I've never fielded a Warmonger, so I can't speak from experience here; However, it is not as bad as you say - you can equip it with a variety of warheads, which increases its tactical flexibility. The barrage missile is a good way of softening up a densely packed deployment zone, the vortex missile is made to take out terminators and leman russes, and the deathstrike can finish off shadowswords beyond the horizon. Thank you so far. To the Warlord - its pose is based on my inability to glue that pewter monster properly. I guess breaking its legs one day to reposition everything is inevitable ^^ At least I will wait for Saturday and just check out how my army performs, keeping your advice in mind. If I don´t forget to charge my cam there will be a battle report up here on Sunday. Cu soon ![]() |

In all fairness 6bp isn't too bad: I'd forgotten that Marauders had had their BP value upgunned...! The whole 'dead stand of Marines thing' is a good point too. Still think I'd take some sentinels and a formation of t.bolts for the price though! R> |

Hi guys, The battlereports (!) will be online tomorrow I guess. Sadly, I was too busy the last days. Originally planned to do one game, we played two on Saturday and another one yesterday. We quit the first game on Saturday, because the Imperator Titan was too overpowered in 5000 Points. I pushed him towards the middle of the Table and in turn two he was set to overwatch. so every unit with Titan Killer ability had to move within range of either my Imperator and/or my Titan Hunter Reaver. So he had no chance to grab any of my objectives. I thought it would be fair to cancel the game at this point. Perhaps there should be a restriction in the next version of AMTL to prohibit players from choosing an Emperor class Titan in games less than 6K points.
