I propose here an imperial tactics, tested against tyranid work fine, I think that should be applied against all enemy. Slow movement as 15cm infantry standard, good armour value in frontline, a reasonable C/C support with the ogryns, and a good firefight generally. Heavy firepower. Advance to the enemy in this deploy layout.
Activation, first leman russ, second the infantry with -1 malus that follow the tank in cover.

I get a feeling that it would be vulnerable to blasts and MW, TK or any combination of the previous. Every time you lose a Russ 2 infantry stands lose cover and become sitting ducks to artillery. And seeing how the infantry needs to stand next to the tanks blastweapons would get a lot of hits. Disrupt weapons would be devastating. And because the formation is slow the it would not be able to "run for cover" without splitting up or lose momentum.

Right observation, obviously this deploy is victim of barrage template, but we can observe that:
The first 2 infantry hit will be the ogryns, that can save at 3+. The leman russ, have their 4+ reinforced.
This two formation can sustain normal barrage, I think. Disrupt is insidious, but with a reorganization, can't cause some problem. Mw is letal if you are inside an house or in open terrain in the same manner for the infantry, about the tank, don't matter. Generally, infantry inside a cover are vulnerable in the same manner, the stands are side by side.
This deploy have function against tiranyd swarm mass engage. If there is a warlord titan near it, the advance will be great supported.

The use of this falanx is to move them in advance, in case of activation fail, move 15cm.
Is engage oriented. To receive or to do. Tyranid, LAtD, BL and Orks will arrive soon against the imperial line to engage, different for other armies, that I know, the Eldar. But if we think a classic long range combined assault of the eldar, (aspect warriors on wave serpent + autarch followed by one or two bike company, or something similar), this falanx can receive this assault and sell life dearly. Imagine a FF assault, classic eldar, and the first hit assigned at 3+ to the ogryns, or alternatively, 4+reinforced to the leman russ. In EA the assault make the difference.

The falanx in play.

here, receiving a tyranid assault.

In the other topic I just concluded to take tank co with inf co, advancing up slow and purposefully.
Now this idea is an interesting variant for these type of unit combination.
If this really works that good, I'll will always double check wheter the enemy has formidable artillery.

Oh and you got very nicely painted Guard, sir!

:D Thanks!

If the opponent invests a lot of points in artillery, must subtract this points from the front line troops, his occupation force. SL itself has a formidable artillery, a formation of manticore and a flyer bomber formation can be deployed in the army as land artillery and mobile artillery to shot the enemy artillery or his others formations. I made this consideration, each point spent in artillery is a point taken away at the front line. When is exceeded, there is a weak front and there is a risk, in the third turn, to loose the half of the table and give the victory to the opponent.

In medio stat virtus.
