Hi! I'm just getting into the wonderful world of WH40K gaming in general and Epic Armageddon in particular. I'm interested in the Imperial Guard, both in terms of fluff (heroic ordinary humans facing the horrors of the universe) and of crunch (tanks! lots of tanks!). So here is a tentative army list, which I intend to use as a buying guide: Incompertus, 3000 POINTS Steel Legion ================================================== REGIMENTAL HQ [550] Supreme Commander, 12 Infantry, 7 Chimera, Hydra TANK COMPANY [700] 9 Leman Russ, 1 Vanquisher, Hydra INFANTRY COMPANY [450] Commander, 12 Infantry, 4 Fire Support, 2 Snipers, Hydra STORM TROOPER PLATOON [350] 8 Storm Troopers, 4 Valkyries STORM TROOPER PLATOON [350] 8 Storm Troopers, 4 Valkyries ARTILLERY BATTERY [250] 3 Manticores ARTILLERY BATTERY [250] 3 Manticores SENTINEL SQUADRON [100] 4 Sentinels |

Firstly welcome to the wonderful game that is epic! secondly, welcome to the forum! there is a tonne of information around and loads of super helpfui people I'm no expert on guard, although I've played with them almost every week for the last year, I'd say that 8 activations, 3 of them quite fragile, is quite low... I normally aim for a minimum of 9, and usually try to get 11/12 my advice would be to drop the fire support and snipers from your infantry company, they're a great garrison force as they are, and not too heavy on the points, with the points saved, I'd suggest picking up a hydra battery, they're great at shooting up infantry so don't worry if you're not using aircraft in your first few games, plus they're fast, last week at a tournament, a sneaky march from my hydras nabbed my opponent's blitz and won me the game! I'd also think about dropping one or both of the stormtroopers, they're pretty good, but a huge investment, they tend to work well when you free up lots of support slots with multiple foot slogging companies. If you're dead set on keeping at least one platoon, I'd suggest dropping the other and using the points to buy a formation of thunderbolts, and a shadowsword to give you some punch against war engines also, remember to fire 2 manticores per turn rather than 3, you still get 2 templates, but then you can still fire a 2BP barrage on the following turn, much better than a single poxy blast marker! |

Looking better, if it were me I'd drop the fire support and add some sentinels to screen the artillery, just make sure you keep the reg HQ, and stormtroopers alive as they are your only robust fast units and you'll need them to grab the blitz on turn 3/4 |

Maybe drop the Rough Riders and replace them with Chimeras for the Infantry Company? |

Welcome aboard, golan. ![]() golan2072 wrote: Maybe drop the Rough Riders and replace them with Chimeras for the Infantry Company? If you do that, you'll lose an activation. As kyuss suggested, I'd be tempted to drop the fire support from the infantry company to gain an activation. Also, you can expect the Hydra to die pretty quickly, because it's the only AV in that formation. |

The thing is that I can only get two Support Formations per regular Company, and I already have 3 Companies and 6 Support Formations. However, I do have an idea... Look here: REGIMENTAL HQ [550] Supreme Commander, 12 Infantry, 7 Chimera, Hydra TANK COMPANY [700] 9 Leman Russ, 1 Vanquisher, Hydra INFANTRY COMPANY [250] Commander, 12 Infantry STORM TROOPER PLATOON [350] 8 Storm Troopers, 4 Valkyries ROUGH RIDERS PLATOON [150] 6 Rough Riders ARTILLERY BATTERY [250] 3 Manticores ARTILLERY BATTERY [250] 3 Manticores FLAK BATTERY [150] 3 Hydras SUPER HEAVY TANK PLATOON [200] Shadowsword THUNDERBOLT SQUADRON [150] 2 Thunderbolt Fighters Now I am up to 10 activations! Yey! |

Looks good IMO. Go for it! |

My final recommendation would be to drop the rough riders and replace with sentinels, then buy a hydra for your infantry company, I tend to garrison them on my blitz in cover with the hydra well hidden to deter air assaulters, however it's not essential and the list looks good, expect your opponents to ignore the rough riders once, then never make that mistake again.... |

Don't drop the rough riders, that's foolishness. They're amazing in the IG list for blocking areas of the battlefield and being a close assault threat. Also, very, very cheap for what they are. |

I love rough riders, but I think having the sentinels to screen artillery and the hydra would be a better choice in this build...... |

Tough choice, in other words... |
