Valhalla Themed Guard Army: Hi, is there a Valhalla list somewhere availiable? I believe it can be approximated by using the standard Steel Legion list, but a regiment-specific list would be cool. Background: I recently got a bunch of Valhalians in plastic but I don't know that I shoudl do with them. I want a 3k list - and tahts about all I now at the moment. Which list should I go for? I want to go for theme, not for efficiency with this list. Style over substance. First thought is this: Reg HQ + Hydra [550] Tank Comp, Vanq + Hydra [700] BTS Inf Comp + Fire Support + Snipers (1) [375] Inf Comp + Fire Support + Snipers (1) [375] 3 Basilisks [250] 3 Basilisks [250] 3 Manticores [250] Sentinels [100] Flak Battery [150] I thought of dropping the Russ in favour of an Artillery Company, but I simply can't let the Russ at home. I never leave without them. 9 Activations, no Superheavies, lots and lots of infantry, 9 indirect firing units. I am thinking of dropping the Manticores in favor of more Basilisks, somehow I associate them more with Valhalla. Any background junkies out there to give me advice? Inf -> GW, old Sentinels from GW, Flak and Manticore by FW. AOT, Arma Enclosure from "you know whom" Thouthts about the minis? Not sure about the Russ, mini wise, as well as background wise. Next up: Which vegetation should they field? Classic Ice World with white coats? Agriculture bases with brownish coats? Ash world bases with grey/olive coats? I am strongly favouring the ice world, but that would mean I have to build scenery fitting for an ice world... |

steel legion is a perfect approximation: both armies are raised on worlds with harsh climates. I'd drop the snipers & maybe also one of the fire support upgrades, at 3k 2 artillery is probably more than enough. with the spare points buy warhound titans or shadow swords ![]() |

I have a feeling Cadians might actually be closer in ethos - more of an emphasis on basic infantry, and less on chimera-bourne mechanised forces? |

Does the Super-Heavies really fit the Infantry + Artillery theme of Valhalla? |

If he doesn't think so he can always not take them... |

The other option would be Krieg. Again infantry focused, this time with static artillery. Just don't take the Gorgons. |

Krieg is out of the equation, there is another Krieg player in our group already. Doubling armies is something I want to avoid. The problem with the Cadian list: I don't know if Valhalla uses Leviathans. I don't want to miss out the Supreme Commander. His ability is just to necessary for the army. Another point against Cadia is the heavy emphasis on Stormtroopers/Kasrkin. If I drop the Sentinels, one FFS and both Snipers I could fit in another Inf-Comp. Not to shure what I should do with them, but hey, more Infantry ![]() 7 Chimeras, 5 Flak, 10 Russ, 48 regular Grunts, 4 Commander Stands, 4 FFS, 9 Ari-Units ... Thats too much standing power and too few "punch" units (like Stormtroopers or Shadowswords). I am not confident with my list building capabilities. :/ |

I think you will struggle to grab objectives with that list, you only have one fast formation..... I would drop both snipers and upgrade one company to mechanised...... It's still pretty light on activations too..... |

But does the mobile theme fit Valhalla? Are there no informations whatsoever on Valhalla? |

Most of their fluff comes from way back in the 3rd editon days and since then AFAIK they've fallen a bit to the wayside in preference of Cadians, Elysians, and Krieg. However we know the following: Specialize in Mountain / Underground Warfare, Sub-freezing temperatures, anti-Ork operations -the former applicable to EA, the latter not so much Famous for their tenaciousness in holding their ground against even the most hopeless odds, and their ability to suffer the most appalling casualties without breaking, often fighting to the last man -probably like the DA Intractable or the Elysian Iron Discipline rules. There's some talk over in Squat land on a stubborn rule though I don't know the details Trained to fight in dense formations to support their morale. Valhallans combine massed artillery barrages and infantry wave assault. Have close relationship with Ministorum Priests. -Big formations and lots of booma Field forces both of massed infantry as well as armor regiments. -the former best modeled as Kreig and failing that, probably Cadians. The latter is already a fit for Minervan tank legion |

So.. The can field basicially every "standard formation", as long its winter-theme and it dominates the army? |

The men of Valhalla go to any length to honour the Emprah! Personally I can't imagine anything they wouldn't do. If it was me I might have my armour as a.different regiment, but tied together by a campaign colour scheme. |

Okay. Then it shall become this: Space Winter Russians Reg HQ [500] Mech. Inf + FS [550] Mech. Inf. [400] Tank Comp [650] Manticores [250] Manticores [250] Sentinels [100] Flak [150] Flak [150] Not sure about the 6 Flak units and the FS in the Mech Inf. 300 Points (FS + one battery) which could also be spent on something else. Riders also cost 150, and there are cool Tauntaun Riders on the market (CNC I believe)... |

personally I'd get rid of the FS and buy some sentinels, then I'd lose one flak battery and add a hydra to 3 of your companies.... hydras are very useful but very fragile and tend to be a priority soft target, it's fine to have a battery, but generally useful to have them in companies where the other more survivable AVs can take the first few hits, plus it gives air assaulters pause, a lucky critical on a t-hawk, vampire or landa can swing the game..... it might be worth dropping one of the mech infantry companies down to just a regular footslogging company so you can garrison an objective (possibly your own blitz if you're up against anything fast like marines or eldar) and free up some points..... 9 activations is pretty light and 5 of the ones you have now are very easy to kill |

It is very hard for Guardies to get more than 9. Especially when it's Steel Legion. Roundabout 1K is set for Supreme and LRBT Comp |
