Post subject:  Chaos Black Legion, need some advice on characters.
Hi

Im new to Epic gaming, just tried a couple games using a loaned Space marines army, but now i have started building my own Chaos Black Legion army. I would like to add some characters to the formations where its a good idea.

Lords i get with some formations, and i guess a Supreme Commander (Warlord) is usefull on one formation. But i could use some advice for the different characters and their role, fx, close combat, etc.

I have listed the different characters in the chaos black legion list here:
Chaos Lord - ((Assault Weapons), MW, EA(+1) Commander, Leader, Invulnerable Save)
Warlord - Supreme Commander
Champion of Chaos - (Assault Weapons), EA(+1), First Strike Invulnerable Save, Augment Summoning (+2D3).)
Icon Bearers - (Leader, Daemonic Focus, Invulnerable Save.)
Sorcerer Lord - Warp Bolt (15cm) (Small Arms), MW, EA(+1) Commander, Leader, Invulnerable Save.
Deamon Prince - Commander, Leader, Fearless, Reinforced Armour, Teleport. May have wings: count as Jump Packs. Speed increased to 30cm, armour reduced to 4+


Also does any have some army list i could take a look at to get inspiration for army building?
I've started painting chaos marines, a formation of terminators and 2 stands of Obliterators.

Christian,
Take a look at Adam77's Armyforge app under Epic Armageddon - you can play around with list building without wasting a lot of paper :) Just keep in mind that the current cost of helblades and heltalons are 200 and 250, respectively.

For characters: Warlords are a must IMO - that supreme commander re-roll always seems to be necessary, plus he's cheap for BL
Choose a sorcerer lord if you want a FF-oriented formation.
Icon bearers are most useful when you take daemons and want to keep them around from turn to turn.
Champions are a necessity if you purchase a greater daemon. They're pretty much the only way you'll get the summoning points to summon the big guys.
Finally, I haven't really used Deamon Princes, but they provide a lot of extra engagement power I imagine.

While not highly successful in the thread, the testing here was also taken to a tournament and held up quite well: viewtopic.php?f=84&t=19275

The daemon prince is probably the best combat wombat in the game for his points. I never leave home without him. :D it all depends on your playstyle however. I like assaults, hence why i favour the daemon prince.

I like the idea of a deamon prince, maybe in some terminators. Wings,or no wings?

Also i the warlord will sit in a chaos space marines unit well with support units.

I think i will mostly play undivided but room for some undivided deamons so i will not focus on characters supporting deamons here in the start. Im stilling getting trying to get hang on the rules.

With termies, I wouldn't take wings - you lose some armor and the jump-pack ability is wasted in a slow unit like that.
