Post subject: | IG SL 3k army and counts as rule |
Hi I have been going through my figures trying to come up with rulebook 3k intro armies for each of IG, SM and Orks. In each case using what I already had painted and giving me a defined painting schedule to finish with a fully painted force for each army. The idea is I would have fully painted armies so I could do intro games for new players. Last night I looked through my IG Steel Legion force. In time I will make it into an Minervan Tank Legion list (to differentiate it from my Tundra IG army). For intro game i wanted to avoid WE's and aircraft, so could nt use my staple Thunderbolts and beloved Shadowswords. So far I have the following: -Regimental HQ -Leman Russ Company -Leman Russ Company / Basilisk Company -2* Manticore Platoons That totals 2,300 points, giving me 700 points to play with. I normally dont like taking Basilisk Companies in games as small as 3k-I prefer manticore Batteries, of which I had 2 of. But I was worried that 2 Leman Russ Companies might be too much for an intro game. I don't have any more infantry and can't take SHT Cos as no WE's. 1st question is what other support choices should I take? -I cant take Rough Rider platoons as they don't appear in Minervan list -No point in taking Deathstrikes or Hydras as no WE's or airrcraft -I already have 2 artillery batteries I was thinking of taking Vulture Squadron, 2 Senitinels Squadrons and LR Demolisher platoon upgrade. That would give me 8 activations, 1 less than I normally take. (For a non-intro game I would take out the 2nd LR Company, the Demolishers and add Shadowsord company, Thunderbolts and Hydras) 2nd question is would i be able to use "counts as" rule to use Salamander figures to represent Sentinels? I want to use the Salamander models as this army will be eventually used as Minervans. Would i have a problem with doing this in say a tournament? Would it be confusing to new players? Thanks James |

Personally, when I was being introduced into Epic, I wouldn't have wanted my first game to have been against the Minervan Tank Legion. While they aren't unbalanced, it's going to suck having your first game consist largely of slamming your face repeatedly into 4+ RA. Just a thought. |

For an intro game I'd just take a mixture of stuff. At a tournament, as we are not playing at GW then anything goes. Especially at Stockport |

Hi- I think you misunderstood. 2 separate things: 1) Initial use as a 3K intro army using rulebook IG SL 2) Eventual use as a 3K-5K army using Minervan Tank Legion. It is more that I don't want to collect and paint anything for intro force that I can't then subsequently use in Minervan Tank legion list. So footslogging infantry, rough riders etc are all out. I was concerned that 20 LR might be too much. My alternative is just 1 company, with other company being Basilisks. Thanks James |
