You'll most likely lose your first game against necrons; the tactics required to beat them are quite different to any other army.

Expect nothing to be deployed on the table, and expect monoliths teleporting in next to you, and troops to assault out of them.

Overwatch and scout screens are excellent anti-necron tools, as well as killing all portal-carrying units.

They're still useful, just not against the targets you'd usually use them against.

That is correct. Don't drop TK weapons from your list, as they are still worth taking. IIRC living metal gives just a regular save against them.

Yep, scout screens and lots of support. If you break an Infantry formation and it doesn't escape through a portal, gut the thing mercilessly. Try to destroy it outright so it can't regenerate.

Break the Monolith formations or concentrate fire to outright destroy them. No available portals is a baaaaad time for the Necrons. Be aware that, since they are fearless breaking Monolith formations mean they can move closer to you and suffer no ill efffects, allowing for a portal assault so start with portals that have already been used (if possible).
Also, try to have the BTS broken at the end of turn 2 if possible. If they fail to rally, you'll have BTS in the bag for turn 3 victory condition calculations.
Watch for the Monolith double followed up by a portal engage move, it's pretty much the standard tactic.
Also, if you're close on strategy, pray they don't get first activation. ;)

ditto all the ^. In addition, Necrons are sloooooww, so stick your TnH objectives far apart, keep a couple of fast fms in reserve and hammer his destroyers if he/she takes them.

IMO, don't try and break monolith fms - they'll phase out and teleport back in somewhere more useful next turn (though at the risk of not rallying them off board). My main tactic is to try and keep Necrons at arms length with scouts, then out maneuver them to grab objectives.

Actually, stike my advice. Work to have the BTS broken at the end of turn 3. It'll phase out and count as destroyed for purposes of victory conditions. If you break at on turn 2 it could rally and then the Necron player, (if he's a cagey fellow), will save it until his last activation and send it out of the Tomb Complex, denying Blitz and BTS.
