List can be found here: http://traitor-legion.appspot.com/choos ... 2~12x1~506 Is this a viable start for the army? Any insight from some Necron Veterans would be much appreciated! Am I seeing that right, that necrons are a little light on AA? ![]() |

Hey mate. 3 Portals is a little light. You're going to struggle to get formations on the board where and when you want them. Monoliths have giant bullseyes on them (even though they are hard to kill) and can disapear quite quickly. I usually struggle to fit one Destroyer formation in at 3000pts due to the high cost. 2 Destroyer formation chew up a lot of points. I'd drop one and use the points to get more portals into your force. The Nightbringer is amazing IF everything goes his way. He's actually quite easy to deal with if your opponent gets to activate first. I've been using the Supreme Commander Warbarque and it seesm to have a bit more staying power in a game. This is mainly due to having a different role to a C'tan (it doesn't need to be so up close and personal to get maximum effect). Yup, Necrons struggle for AA. I like to have at least 2 Pylons for this reason. Yes they have great coverage and are made of living metal. They also only need 2 BM's to break. Most armies can find a way to make that happen quickly if they need to. Hope that helps mate... have fun! |

i really wish pylons where just a support formation, and not also in the warengine allocation. it really makes taking an abbatoir fairly impossible |

as said above, 2 destroyer formations is a little much in a 3000 pt list. more monoliths would be much better. and if you go for another monolith formation, have at least 2 of them, that allows you to assault through one and and use the 5 cm consolodation move to go through the other. also the tomb complex should be in every army. it's nice to have that back up portal. and also allows you to have a chance of denying blitz from enemy. as for the pylons, 2 is usually good. i try to place them about 15 cms apart around the tomb complex. they can support each other in assaults and guard the blitz. as your opponents get more used to playing necrons though, think about dropping the second pylon. they break so easily and experienced players will keep them broken all game. always nice to see new necron players. are you using the exodus wars minis? |

Honestly, I think your list would work okay. If I were you, I would eliminate a couple Immortals and get a tomb complex. I would alternatively swap an Eques formation for an Obelisk formation and get a Tomb Complex. Both keep your activation count at 9 which is within reason. With some careful planning you could pull off a victory. |

Thanks for the insights! @mnb: Yes I am using the Exodus Wars minis, doesnt get any better for Necrons. ![]() Taking some of your ideas into account I came up with this list: Necron List My thoughts: -I really like to try the deceiver thats why I prefer him atm instead of the warbarque. That may change future but for now I am going to try him. ![]() -The thing with the second pylon is, I just dont like things that dont move, so its going to be one for now. ![]() That should be enough portals, shouldnt it? |
