So I am very out of practice, have very little time to paint and want to go to Britcon. I used Orks towards the start of the year and that means painted army wise its Eldar, Guard or Marines. The games are apparently roughly 3 hours on a 6x4 table with 4000 points. So dense and time pressured. Normally I'd just go for something like a marine drop force, but someone wants to borrow a bit of it, so thats out. Eldar I generally dislike. That leaves guard. Now they are probably the weakest of the EpicUK re-done races. Further to play to the steel legion strengths it would mean at least 3-4 mechanised companies, but there isn't much space and I face a weekend of corner to corner games and probably drop troops. Siegers would be entertaining, even with the large point increases (I think my last tourney army at 3000 points would now cost at least 3500) as 4 or so sets of fortifications would fill the table. However I wish to actually finish games. I don't have enough valks for the flyboys, which leaves the tankers. Would this be a viable army? How to deal with teleporters and back field artillery? Or for that matter a siege or horde army? 800 HQ with Hydra 250 Conquerors 175 Sniper tanks 440 6 Leman Russ, Hydra 200 Recon 200 Recon 440 6 Leman Russ, Hydra 200 Shadowsword 200 Shadowsword 440 6 Leman Russ, Hydra 100 Griffons 100 Griffons 150 Thunderbolt flight 150 Thunderbolt flight 150 Thunderbolt flight No infantry which would throw some armies a curve, however not actually that strong per say. Should I just go for the back up marine drop/titan force that will at least allow me to finish games? |

Yes, he is going. And that list looks quite tasty to me too. As to dealing with the teleporting/hordes you'll just have to rely on your skill at arms to see you through! |

Chris the Sentinel Walkers excel at area control to interefere with drop in troops, and they don't make bad speed bumps if no drop troops are expected. |
