Has anyone bought from this seller on Ebay? Seems to have a lot of out of production forumware, what's the scoop?

I've noticed that seller, too.... he tries to sell forumware at insanely inflated prices.

yeah I seem to remember the name, often used along with markfield miniatures as a byword for all that is wrong with epic miniatures and ebay....

I keep seeing forumware being mentioned here. What is it? I'm totally lost on these discussion, though thanks to kyussinchains's link I at least know that its something shadey.

the 'forumware' is no longer available. A now inactive member used to create miniatures that infringed on another companies IP; said company came down hard and miniatures are no more.
There are still plenty of other forum members creating legally legit miniatures and selling them commercially however; those sometimes get referred to as forumware but aren't really the same thing.

Well, due to the fact that some items have been primed, and others are bare metal, I have to assume that he's reselling items that he's picked up from other gamers.

Hopefully people don't encourage him by buying any of his stuff.

Yeah he's been noted in the Muppets on Ebay thread (along with kind of the douches, MFM). Both are notorious for nabbing army lots and and piecing them out for exorbitant prices. Along with that business as normal, he's been able to nab some forumware (usually people bailing on the hobby I expect) that gets price gouged on it's own. A few years back he nabbed a Cuastus Assault Pod that caused quite a bit of ruckus here-The designer was able to call foul on ebay selling one of his prototypes and got the listing pulled. I know he uses sockpuppets to buy and then sells on his ebay store so it's hard to stop him as they are a revolving door (I've seen some of my forgeworld tanks later show up on Blackwater hollow).

Thanks for taking the time to explain that MoK.

This explains why it is so hard to know how much epic minis go for.

I was trying to sell off or trade my epic squats(was even considering evil bay), but if it's just going to go to someone like this maybe I'll just repaint them and keep using them if they don't go here.

I hate it when people artificially inflate a market and make a somewhat collectible game piece into a collerctors only item due to the price.

IN all fairness, he's not "inflating the market" - he is free to price the items for anything he wants. The market will dictate if he receives his asking price. If someone pays his asking price, he was justified in asking that.

If you sell your Squats, and he (or someone else) flips them and is able to get 150% on what they paid to you, are they a bad seller? Not at all - either you sold for too low, or they happened to get the right buyer to pay the higher price. Welcome to the free market!

I completely agree and that's fine. The thing I take issue with is his sales of forumware. But I guess it's not really any of my business.

It is true that he is just trying to get them to sell at a higher price. My problem is that I see them as gaming pieces with some collect-ability. I don't want to discourage someone from being able to play with and use the pieces I'm selling because of their price. Heck, I haven't painted them myself in part because of their 'extra value'.

My other problem is that due to these online prices it becomes very difficult to know how to sell them as a newcomer. If I go online and want to know the asking price for most things I'd like to sell I can figure it out fairly quickly. Yet when it comes to this stuff I'm completely lost.

Just because the free market has the word free in it, doesn't mean I have to like it. :P
