I tried to bid but it won't let me because I don't have a "linked" paypal account. Ignoring the fact that I actually do, why would a seller make that restriction?
I've never sold anything on ebay before.

I'm the seller and the only restriction I set is to restrict those that "Don't have a PayPal account". I guess if you don't have a Paypal account linked to your eBay ID then it may appear you don't have one. I've been doing it this way for years and never had a complaint from bidders before.
You probably should look into why your Paypal account is not linked to your eBay id.

This is actually becoming a big requirement on eBay, as eBay forces all sellers to take at least Paypal. Its more an eBay issue than a seller issue right now.
