I think it was The Real Chris who was asking how long before one of the Raiders books ends up on eBay. Here is the answer: six months. ![]() |

I noticed this, and was a little concerned. GW may not mind too much about a non-profit use of their ip, but when it starts getting resold on ebay they could become more concerned. Unlikely, but still... |

I've been mixed on this as well. I've considered selling some of the Raiders books on eBay but felt it might be misconstrued. But there is nothing I can do about them appearing on eBay and I don't believe anything GW can do either... to the auction item owner at least. It is personal property. We'll see how things go - who knows? Maybe this will be the future of Raiders & Crusaders, Inc.! |

What's most worrying is that the auction doesn't specify Raiders as fan-made. It reads as if it's an official GW product. Games Workshop Warhammer Epic Armageddon 40k Rulebook + Swordwind Supplement + Epic Raiders Supplement |

I suspect the 'cease and desist' letter would best be directed to Ebay. |

He says in the body: "Note:You are bidding on a professionally printed version of the Epic Raiders supplement I purchased online. Epic Raiders is fan-made and may be downloaded from here: Epic Raiders" |

That bit about it being fan-made was done at my request. He is a very nice fella and was willing to do that just in case GW freaked out. Problem here solved, although at some point GW is going to see a copy of this on eBay that I either miss or can't get the owner to change the description. I just suppose we'll take it one day at a time. |

I'm pretty sure they cant do much about it. If someone is making repro's of models and advertising them as repro's I think they can do something, but thats a different ball game. Its a book. Not claiming to be official. I doubt they'd actually care. Someone on here could technically buy your remaining books and put them up in their ebay store and they most likely couldn't touch it. If you reprinted one of their old OOP books...yes...thats bad joo joo and the smack down could cometh. Actually...come to think of it....how many of those books do you have left ![]() |

I may be wrong but: If I buy a bunch of GW miniatures and sell them off E-bay at a higher price and make a profit: Isn't that technically using GW's IP as well? Or I buy their miniatures, paint them up and sell them as well (granted I have spent time painting them, but I'm still making money off something that was GW's original concept). I don't see how Raiders is much different. They guy got something that uses GW IP. It is his poperty now. He sells if off again and may be lucky to make a profit. I think even GW is going to have a hard time sueing everybody who sell their GW stuff on E-bay like that. That said, I think it was a wise move of you to make the guy add a link to the Raiders project so people can buy it that way too if they so desire. ![]() |

Actually he suggested that on his own. All I asked was that he mention the words "fan-based". I am hoping it works out better for him since now potential buyers can see what the inside of the book looks like. Heck, if I wasn't so short on money I'd probably bid on it myself to get the Swordwind book alone. I understand what you are saying about the IP and you are probably right. However, I'd rather err on the side of prudence at this point. It would be nice to get a few more supplements out before raising the eyebrows of the GW legal department. I'm not doing anything wrong, but right/wrong and legalities are not necessarily mutually inclusive. They could just shut me down for the heck of it. The worst part is not knowing, but I have resigned myself to never knowing. As somebody pointed out about six months ago, they CAN'T tell me its okay to print Raiders, even if it is. By saying anything, they are endorsing it and that could open them up to IP abuse in other ways. At least now they can plausibly deny that they didn't know anything about it. |
