That's why you should just place your maximum bid as soon as you decide you want the item, and don't touch it again until it's done... watching the auction as it goes is like watching a kettle waiting to boil... someone is gonna get steamed!


The problem is that what you should do and what people do do is often very different.

So often when I have done that I will see that someone else has put in their "maximum" bid and then been tempted to pay just a "little" more every 6 minutes for the remainder of the option meaning either

A) I pay much more than I could of or
B) They eventually win the item.


Then if you get multiple people who bid in this same sort of way a badly painted second hand item can go up to way more than its initial retail value.  Which pretty much sucks for everyone especially when they realise after bidding completes that they could get it cheaper and then refuse to pay for the auction.

Thus the way things should work is very different than the way they do, which highly encourages sniping.

For me I just use buy it now or seek what I want from sorces other than ebay.

He got a respectable amount for it. Far from it's "worth", but a foundation for a new venture for sure.

I was actually surprised he got so much. I didn't think it was that big a force for the money paid. It was nice I'm not putting it down but I didn't think it was worth the money.
