Post subject: | Bac-Con, Mar 1st 25 Epic Legions Imperalis charity event |
Hey guys - a quick post about a charity Epic Legions Imperialis narrative event in the UK in March 25. I am sure everyone has heard the sad news relating to Paul Sawyer (co-founder of Warlord Games and ex-editor of White Dwarf) and his medical diagnosis. The event is named in his honour and known love of the bacon butty, Ba-Con, and all ticket sale proceeds and also a raffle on the day going to https://www.thebraintumourcharity.org/ It will be held at Firestorm Games in Cardiff on Saturday 1st March 2025, the format will be both a 2000pt Legions game and a 'mega battle' on the day in a narrative format. Just a quick update on the event. Firstly, the positives: We managed to collect over £300 for the Brain Tumour Trust. Although we didn't have many attendees I think those that did come had fun (we had some specially prepared, very irreverant scenarios all relating around bacon butties) and a raffle with some good prizes. A negative was the attendance. We only managed to sell about 50% tickets, and that was despite a very reasonable ticket price, free attendance gifts, the event being at one of the biggest and busiest gaming venues in the UK and the event being hammered exhaustively across Epic and Oldhammer social media for months leading up to the event. Myself and the co-organiser tried so hard and it was dispiriting to see the response, which I now think might have been down to the choice of primary game for the event (Legions Imperialis) We are looking at making it an annual event but considering the poor attendance, and my anecdotal experience of Legions Imperialis groups locally struggling with player base, we might open it up to other games. One option might be to make it an 'Oldhammer' event, with perhaps anything playable but the focus game changing each year, or even an 'Epic' event and perhaps try and get some of the other Epic groups involved for a fun (non-tournament) event? Any thoughts would be appreciated! |
