We want lots of photos to satisfy our envy. Kyrt wrote: Maybe l'académie française is campaigning against tournaments conducted in low gothic. 1. Apparently only 1 in 4 people in France speak English - you'd likely want to be quite confident English speaker to attend a tournament conducted in that language (which they routinely are because us Brits are so ignorant). I know I'd be very apprehensive to attend one in French, even though they would go out of their way to help I'm sure. * * Also anecdotally, having spent a large part of my career in a European international organisation - where business is conducted in English but the majority of staff are not British - I would say my French colleagues found it more 'effort' to speak English than other European nationals (followed by the Spanish). He ... tell that to any spanish: There is the belief that almost everyone from areas outside Spain (yeah, French included) talks in English, only the spanish suck at it. What i found out by living abroad is that there is plenty of areas on the same level as Spain with foreign languages without even leaving Europe. I think that it comes from the fact that many spanish emigrated to France/Switherland/Germany 50 years ago and back then people in that area spoke more languages due to the WW2, because i find many youngsters all over Europe that barely speak in english, even though in the last decades english is a course in all schools. |

The results of the first day. There is a pdf attached which shows who is playing whom and the results as far as available. The last two pages show a ranking of teams and players. Team UK London in lead, Team UK North, Germany1. Germany2 and Sweden. Places 2 and 3, and Places 4 and 5 are very close to each other. Attachment:

Very well done mark, some very consistent play this weekend. good job to all team London though, I wasn't expecting that solid a lead. Some fun games this weekend, although it's a shame it wasn't swiss - I felt rather sorry for Matthias from Germany 2 getting Tim and I for his last two games, the game against Tim especially looked pretty rough. Granted it's difficult with an odd number of teams though, hopefully we can get 6 next year to make organisation a bit easier! Still, a big thanks to the German teams for a smoothly run event, and everyone playing helping make it an enjoyable event - hopefully we'll see most of you again next year! |

I photographed most of the armies, just "Phone" Photos. More (made with a decent camera) to come once they are edited. The Iron Warriors won Best Painted. |

A voluntary decision not to have 'tier one' armies for England and Scotland next year would be fun! |
