More realistic might be trying to expand to other communities (Spain, Finland, Poland) and reach out again to the French The french should be the first priority amogst the Europeans, due to their numbers and organization, but always striked me back why they are so removed from the rest of the community. Count out the Spaniards: There is more than enough guys playing right now to go to tournaments, but the community have been always completely fragmented, so one group barely know about others and those that are close to each other don't know at all about the others, with most surprising case case me acting as the match maker between long time communities even though they were less than 100km away and i am at 1000 from both, and only a very small part of them (4 or 5) know or care about what happens outside Spain with Epic. I have tried to stir up the guys several times but i haven't got even a lukewarm answer yet. To make matters worse transportation is expensive and bad making interaction harder, the fandom around WH40k is too strong, there was never support for 4th edition on the Spaniard's WD not even an article, most long-time players play with 2nd edition and reject 4th, and to summarize things are so bad that only once there was an attempt at organizing a tournament ever. Theoretically the magyars should be a better bet as they have lots of guys and are concentrated in an area or two but almost everyone is inactive nowadays which is a pity. |

Maybe l'académie française is campaigning against tournaments conducted in low gothic. More seriously, there has been some effort in the last few years to welcome and encourage players to travel to French tournaments. But as for why the community is so separate, I think there are several contributing factors: 1. Apparently only 1 in 4 people in France speak English - you'd likely want to be quite confident English speaker to attend a tournament conducted in that language (which they routinely are because us Brits are so ignorant). I know I'd be very apprehensive to attend one in French, even though they would go out of their way to help I'm sure. * 2. The FERC lists and metagame are, I gather, quite different to NetEA and EUK (which are probably more similar to each other) 3. France already has an established tournament scene, with the lists they're familiar with, hence less 'unmet demand' * Also anecdotally, having spent a large part of my career in a European international organisation - where business is conducted in English but the majority of staff are not British - I would say my French colleagues found it more 'effort' to speak English than other European nationals (followed by the Spanish). |

The UK player base seems a bit fragmented. How about Irish and/or Welsh teams ? Anyone from the Falklands ? On a different note, who is playing what army in Team North ? |
