Hello. Ironhelm (aka "Rolf") here. New to the forums. ... Right, having dispensed with the unimportant details, let's get stuck in. Need your assistance: are there any Mid-Atlantic players seeing this? and are there other players able to come to Mid-Atlantic in May [edit: Month is TBD until conflicts with previously announced events can be avoided!] ? Background: It's been a long time coming to get back to tabletop gaming and the poison of choice to spend those few hours a week in is of course E:A (alright, the Warmaster army is also getting a few glances - but really those are with disdain since 90% of the army is unpainted!) *cough* Therefore, am already drumming up interest in the Washington, D.C. area and resuscitating those old Ironfist League "IFL" (http://www.ironfistleague.com) oldbeards to dust off our many cases of Epic minis and get back onto the tables. If there was one thing that I learned when running events for the IFL is that if you want more people to game with, run some events and get people out to play. In consequence, I will be concurrently drumming up local interest and inviting all of you to come stomp around in our turf to ostensibly agitate the locals into pouring out to represent, or at least have a doggone good time and ostensibly throw a few dice around and maybe even follow a rule or two -- depends on who is chaperoning. First order of business will be to give our events a name, and ... in keeping with what appears to be the US tradition of [zone] Epic Armageddon Tournament [number convention], that leaves us with the awkward yet likely appropriate: MEAT -- or Mid-Atlantic Epic Armageddon Tournament(s) (Well ... clearly the naming convention will require appointments to a congressional sub-committee once we get up to speed, and for now, we'll roll with MEAT 2014.) Why was I posting? Oh right. A tally of the events of 2013 and 2014 suggests July, September, or November would be a good month to host a first tournament without conflicting with other events. Call it "TBD" until further notice. At the moment, these are the planning details: LOCATION: Arlington, Virginia. (In addition to local stores that will be interested in hosting, I have three locations we can use: 2,000 sq ft, 4,000 sq. ft, and 20,000+ sq. ft so space isn't a concern -- E:A -sized terrain will be more of a concern than event space.) WHEN: "TBD". Prob akin to a Fri night mega event + Sat actual tournament + early Sun brunch and more gaming. WHAT: Mayhem and fun. Trophy likely. Bigger trophy awarded to the soft points. TOURNAMENT DETAILS: "TBD" (Note: your suggestions are elicited and will be suitably considered and mired in sub-committee to the sub-committees and favoritism will be placed on fun!) COST: "TBD" but as usual, not much - and all left over $ after costs will go to a pre-designated charity. A word of caution ... IFL oldbeards have a habit of 'returning the favor' -- so those of you safe in your garrison up in CT or PA, know that after coming here in May ... more than just a slight chance you will see a bunch of IFLers show up for your events! (Often to haplessly try to win back our trophy you will have made away with!) ... ooh, a 'traveling trophy' ... /off topic tangent Anyways, that's the idea: make some noise, drum up the locals, warn them that non-locals are going to pour into town and have fun with our minis, and have a damned fine time at it all. Thoughts? |

Welcome aboard, Ironhelm. ![]() I'm interested, but with NEAT scheduled for June 14th I'm not sure how many players from the Northeast may be able to commit to two tournaments. |

I'm interested, but I'd like to see what the turn out is going to be before committing. Some additional games the day before/after would probably be a necessity too. The last time the Adeptus Ineptus traveled down to Maryland we only got a single day of gaming... not really worth it. |

Makes perfect sense -- I did not see the post for NEAT (actually still don't -- these eyes may be getting old!). Taking the long-term view and the big picture perspective, it doesn't matter when we host down here in Arlington, VA -- it could be July or November (!) if that is what fits into the overall fabric of Epic events here on the East Coast. It's all good as long as we all end up having somewhere to go each month should we find that we have the ability to escape off to an Epic tournament! The only thing worse than not having time to get away to an event, is having time to get away and no event to get to. This will be a work-in-progress until we (the newest Epic event on the block) find the right gap to fit into. What we will likely do is run some local smaller events until its time to do our part in hosting a larger event. = ) |

I "Rolled 1s" trying to hit it.) chivalrynsorcery wrote: ... Epic tournament in PA in October, shameless Plug for Mechanicon. See other postings on this board. I am running that tournament Aye. I'm sorting out whether a few of us are going to make that trip up! Sounds like several of the IFLers are going anyways for the WH40K. |

Will def follow the pattern of ensuring everyone has a sense of how many people are 'registered' before people embark on road trips. Also, would plan it so that people could either: a) also play in games / events day before and day after; or b) catch up with their families to enjoy the D.C. area day before / day after. (this constitutes the "but Honey, we can spend a day with the kids in D.C.!" excuse for having to drive to Arlington, VA for gaming! Plenty to keep them busy during Saturday when you are at main tourny event.) ie. Each day would be stand alone yet also part of the larger whole. Of course, points would also have to be awarded for participation in the social activities outside of scheduled gaming times! |

I'd be interested in attending, but my schedule stays so fluid that it would depend on what date is settled on. I've wanted to make the last several NEAT tournies, but have been unable to make the drive up for various reasons. I do live in the Wash DC area though, so if you decide you want some practice battles in, send me a PM. I have several painted armies, and nobody to throw down with. ![]() |

Love the fact that epic is making a come back.. I would love another summer tournament end of july or early august. Be warned the new England epic scene is hard core , One guy has fits of rage that resulted in the breaking of my one of a kind blue range ruler for epic.. Just joking we are a good bunch, the PA guys are the weird ones !! |
