The BHGS have opened up entry to Britcon 2011 very early this year. The reason for this is the head organizer, JD McNeil, has decided that this year will be his final one running the event.

To celebrate(?) this, if you have paid for a residential ticket between 2006 and 2010, then entry for this year will be free! You still need to entry via snail mail as a cheque to cover your deposit should you drop out is required.

As ever more details available on the Epic-UK calendar, and you will get a bonus 2 points towards the Epic-UK championship by attending.

Previous entrants should have received an email regarding this, if you didn't then Epic-UK doesn't have your current email. Mail info@epic-uk.co.uk and we can fix this.

If you enter can you please reply when you receive an email confirmation from the BHGS. Thanks.

Um. Am I going blind or is there no option to pay for the competition without having to pay for accomodation as well? If I do Britcon, I'll be staying at my ma's.

If you have a Manchester post code as home you can enter for a none residential ticket (£40) at any time. People without a Manchester postcode have to wait for day tickets to go on sales to fill gaps as necessary. With a lot of poeple getting free entry this year the amount of day tickets that go on sale late may be limited.

So if you're ma has a Manchester post code you could move back home to get local entry?

Truth of the matter is that the BHGS need to sell x of the residential packages to get the facilities from Manchester Uni, and cover all the other cost such as table hire (and belive me it takes a lot of folding tables for 200+ wargames!).

I understand the cost looks initially high, but with 2 nights B&B and you tournament entry it's not that bad really. It is kinda strange to be talking about this in Jan, normally we don't have these conversations before April at the earliest :)

Has anyone not on the list sent their entry into the BHGS?

If you haven't and are thinking you want to attend I'd get your enty in sooner rather than later, with a lot of people eligible for the free entry I think Britcon will be running out of space pretty quickly this year.

I remember being pleasantly surprised when they announced Britcon would be free next year, but my ruthless cynicism quickly looked for the catch- I wasn't disappointed.

Does that mean you won't be attending? And does this mean a wider Flame On boycott this year?

Just asking.

I keep looking at that apostrophe and wondering if that's a superb deadpan joke, or just a typo. ;) :D

Very likely the whole Flame On crowd will be attending, nothing I can or want to say either way to persuade them- Flame On doesn't work like that.

It's very hard (and very childish) to attempt a boycott over what is in essence an act of unexpected kindness/generosity on the part of Britcon. It was just disappointing to be stringed along for half a year before they revealed the Accomodation clause- if they had said from the start 'free tickets to those with accomodation tickets' I would have thought "Wow, didn't expect that, good for them".

It's the act of having a reward dangled in front of you then taken away that annoys more than not having the reward dangled at all.

All that said I've been waiting for Britcon for the return of my Ulani (and to challenge Mark for the title), as I feel the list only really gets tough at 4000pts+.

It is certainly tough with all those 'sniper' tanks, and my lesson from last year is not to drop in the middle of them :D
