A big day of playing Epic in Rockville MD that brought people from Massssachussssettttsssss, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.  While it wasn't required, three groups -nay, teams- came together for the sole purpose of getting a hold of this fine trophy.  The Epic Trophy.  Yes, boys and girls, the first competition ever for this coveted prize.

After all the smack talk that went on here in this thread, you would have thought guys would be coming to blows.  Okay, maybe not, but the posturing was rather thick in the pre-game, especially from the hosting Epic Team the Disorderlies.

Robert aka TheMailedFist was sure to be a difficult opponent to beat. Actually, he proved impossible to beat since he never showed for his own event.  Supposedly he was so ill that he couldn't drag himself out of bed.  But being he was the organizer, the smack-talk initiater, and AN ORK PLAYER, he is officially the winner of the I'm a Nancy last place ribbon.

He missed out on all this Epic goodness.

Yes, twelve men (well, 10 men, 1 boy, and Dwarf Supreme) squared off in mortal combat to defend their honor and bring home this finely crafted trophy that took hours to sculpt.

And yes, that is a grot on the tippy top.

Teams competed in a fast and loose format that proved to be very easy to manage.  Each of the three teams was given 16 poker chips and each time somebody squared off with somebody else from another team, they could (and did) bet X number of chips.  At the end of the night the chips were counted and the winner was determined.  There were no rules for how many could be bet, how to dole them out, or what to do in the case of a tie.  It just went down like one of the original UFC fights.

Well, you can already tell that the Disorderlies failed, largely due to Robert bailing on them (insert whining noise here), but how did the other teams do?

Dave, Carrington, and Dwarf Supreme formed up as Adeptus Ineptus, the team from the north and the farthest travelled.  Dave did fantastically, smacking me and my Elysians around with his ground pounding Space Marines for a 2 chip net and beating the pants off of somebody else (I can't remember, I was doped up on cough medicine).  Dwarf Supreme unfortunately got it handed to him and earned the Urine Stained Napkin ribbon for the weekend and dragging his team into second place.

Note the chips on the table.  Just like real men (but not quite).

But the winner of this fine get together was Bethlehem Resin.  Cameron, the youngest of the four, lost his first game against Tyranids but managed to pull a narrow win out against Dwarf Supreme and hold his own.  Me and my Elysians crushed Disorderly Skrivanek and his Titan Legions in a 4000 point game 3-0 (Blitz, TnH, BTS).  Later on I was pwned by Dave.

MNB had two shaky games with the Necrons but managed to squeak through with two victories.

Ronsandt brought the Tau and his A game as he took his first win against the IG and his second win against the Tyranids.  GO RON!!

There were lots of great battle stories for the day while God dropped 6 inches of snow on the outside world.  I'll leave it to them to tell.  Dream Wizards in Rockville, MD were excellent hosts and the shop was roomy and clean and the people were friendly.

Of course, victory has its price.  Bethlehem Resin is now required to host the next Epic event to give these flower sniffers a chance to redeem themselves and take back the trophy.  And each time the Epic Trophy is won, a single model is added to its frame by its holder.

So we're looking at late March or early April for our event.  Gird up your loins like men and get ready for some grudge matches, gentlemen.

I forgot to dish out two other dubious ribbons.

This next award is the Mother Theresa ribbon and it goes to Aaron for sure.  Why?  Because every kid under seven who was at that shop hounded him mercilessly with questions during his first game with me (and probably into his second).

"What game is this?"
"Whose side are you on?"
"Is that a robot?"
"Is that a giant robot!?"
"How do you win?"
"Can I be on your side?"
"What are you doing with those dice?"
"Can I pick this up?"

Actually it was Dave, Capt Piett (aka Matt III) and me, not Carrington.

Ah yes, Capt Piett.  Sorry!

The last ribbon goes to me, unfortunately.  I had promised to stick around for a second day with the guys, sleeping over in MD.  Well, my wife called me, worried about one of our pipes that froze and how she didn't really know what to do if the water pipe burst.  I walked her through it but it was one of those things (and you married men know this) where you explain something a dozen times and she is purposefully not getting it...
"You see the pipe coming out of the wall?"
"No."
"It's a pipe.  Right next to the furnace."
"What does it look like?"
"Like a PIPE.  About 3/4" thick.  See it?"
"Yeah."
"Now look for the meter."
"What's the meter look like?"
"It's attached to the pipe and has little dials on it. There is a water shut off valve attached to it."
"But how do I turn it?"
"It just turns, like anything else that is associated with water."
"But what direction?"
"It only turns in one direction."
"But how will I know?"

So 40 minutes into my 4 hour drive home she calls me and tells me the water is fine now but it would be nice if I came home anyway.

I therefore crown myself with the Whipping Chair ribbon.

that's just classic! I know exactly what that feels like :)

That was me that Dave beat :( It did go to 4 turns though (even after destroying my Storm Serpent with a crit on his 1st shot) and I could have (would have!) won if I hadn't failed each of my last 3 flinking dice rolls. Damn you and your dice Ron! So I feel a bit better about that  :D

So does that give me the "chopped liver" award for most easily forgotten participant?  :p
