Noah preached for 120 years that the flood was coming. Nobody repented.
Jonah walked into a Ninevah, says "You'll be destroyed in 40 days," and the whole city repents.

It goes to show you that many things are just out of our hands.  That holds true for this weekend.  A couple weeks back I sent out an email to some people I knew who lived in the area who might be interested in driving to The Portal in Bethlehem PA for some Epic play.  It's close to me and an easy enough thing to accommodate.  No tournament, no grand plan, no required start time.  People could come and go as they wished and play what they wanted.  I was hoping for four or five guys to show.

Thirteen people showed up.  :O  For those of you in the UK, that is a big turn out for any event here - distance being a major factor for most players.  Had one more person shown up the entire store would have been packed with solid Epic.

Compare that with the Games Day Baltimore event where we struggled to get eleven people to come.  :sigh:  Keep in mind we had prize support, trophies, we had to schedule time off, shelled out a lot of cash for the hotel, food, drove over 3 hours to get there, etc..

The games were fun and the players were all well behaved.  Big Battles was the way of the day.  ePilgrim, Dwarf Surpreme, RonSandt, and myself played 8000 per side (four armies of 4000 each) and that took the better part of 8 hours.  The Skitarii and Minveran Legion combined to fight the forces of Biel Tan and Demiurg.  The game was sliding toward defeat for the Xenos team when we squeaked out a victory with BTS and Take & Hold.  Ron abandoned an objective marker in a strange move and the second objective marker we managed to clear out with some luck.  One more turn and we would have folded.

As for players we had everyone from newbies to veterans.  Guys in their forties all the way down to a twelve year old (I would whisper to the other players in my sinister Yoda voice, "Do not underestimate the child.")

As for armies we had Eldar, Demiurg, Minervan, Skitarii, Orks, Lost & Damned, Space Marines, some other Chaos armies, Tyranids, AMTL, Imperial Guard, and maybe something else I am missing.  Keep in mind some guys showed with more than one army.

It would be great if the other participants who were there could comment on their games.  It was a good time had by all.

Pictures are limited and will have to wait on the other guys.  I had to borrow Suvarov454's camera to snap off some shots since I forgot mine (AGAIN! :_( ) at home.

Sounds great!

One day I'll travel into the foreign lands of the United States to meet and beat some of you.  *laugh*

Wonder if we could get some Canadians, or even just Ontarians, together for a local event like this.

I have to say I am saddened, Chroma, that such a cross-border excursion is far more difficult than it used to be a decade ago.

Yep, that's one of the reasons my wife doesn't like me "going alone" to these things... yet she heads down to Guatemala to some obscure village and stays for a month... *LAUGH*

Most sweet.

Next time I'm in New Jersy I really should make more of an effort to hop up north to lose at Epic to some of you guys.

Thanks, Meph.  Good to know for reference.  The exciting thing is we had a lot of other guys who had other plans that couldn't come so this wasn't a maxed out attendance by any means. Dave was at his cousin's wedding (so far as I've heard, the worst excuse for not playing Epic  ), and others had family obligations or work conflicts.

As for the Canada thing, I think it would be great if you could make it down for the NEAT tournaments, or perhaps coax Suvarov454 to plans something in NY which would shorten your trip by a couple hours.  I personally might not make it but you'd see a big group from Connecticut and Massachusetts including Dwarf Supreme, Dave, Scarik, and others.

I'm trying to convince the U.S. players to organize into teams so we can battle against each other and have bragging rights.  In fact I may take some time to create an Epic Trophy. :))

I just wanted to say thanks to Bill for putting on a class event.  Lots of great terrain and tons of players!

I made the trek up w/ 2 others from DC.

My Tyranids were able to defeat the forces of Chaos 2-1 in a rumble in the desert.

Following that, the Chaos player and I teamed up w/4k each against 2k each of AMTL/Marines/AMTL/Knight AMTL.  That game included a Warmonger AND an Imperator.  The highlight was definitely the Chaos terminators teleporting into combat with the Warmonger, summoning a Bloodthirster and then breaking/destroying it.

All in all, a good time (and Sonic Burger!) was had.

How about that!  My browser still remembered my password from ~3.5 years ago!

Hello all!  I'd like to add my thanks to Bill for organizing this game day and inviting me.  I'd also like to thank Studdering Dave for getting us such great space.  The Portal was AWESOME.  I got to enjoy a fried taco from Geekers, and I was able to bring some Big League Chew back to impress my Peter Griffin-loving coworkers.

Finally, I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude to the two Marine players who put up with my glacially slow moves.  One downside of playing Orks is the amount of time it takes me to get the entire horde moved every activation.  I'm pretty sure that one of the tables completed their entire game while I was still working on the first turn.

I'll try to get the pictures hosted later today, but you may be disappointed... well over half of them are "double-exposed".  I *gotta* learn how to use that camera!  When I get them up I'll post a link, and try to get the better pictures displayed in this thread.

congrats on getting that together and for the turnout. About how far is Bethelehem PA from Mechanicsburg/Harrisburg PA? I might have to get together sometime to get smacked down in epic with y'all when we go up to visit my inlaws.

Thereabouts of 1 hour 10 minutes, maybe less depending on how lead-footed you are (and how many State Troopers there may be between here and there).

an hour or so drive isn't too bad. Hopefully state troopers aren't as plentiful as NC though. seems like there are two for every five miles there.
