Dear all; I hope you'll be pleased to hear that i'd like to test the Water for a new event to be added to the Uk Epic Tournament scene in 2010; The Bristol Winter Warmer.
Here's the deal: three 3000pt games over the course of a day with some of the scenery provided by the owners of some of the best 40k terrain makers from the Bristol Vanguard; additionally for those who might want to stay in town for the evening and there's plenty of pubs and cheaper hotels as well as crash space available with the possibilty of some friendly games the next day.

More importantly the aim of the event is to run an even friendlier style of tournament than usual; we may simplify the scoring system to represent this but more importantly this is a chance to catch up after the lull over december and prepare for the coming season: we'd like to allow as many armies as we can and as such you'll be able to play with Tyranids, Tau, Necrons, Death Korps, AMTL, Sisters of Battle (inquisition forces) and Squats as well! We;ll be focusing on allowing new RACES to begin with so in this instance - for example - you'll be unable to take a Catachan or World Eater's list but you've got to admit that six or more addiitonal armies to play with is quite a treat!  

THe aim of this is twofold:
To create a more informal environment whereby people understand that not all the lists are neccasarily balanced; to reinforce the idea of a 'friendly' tournament and secondly (and more importantly) to help move those lists towards being suitable for such play by providing a tournament like environment where they will have chance to be tested further, whereby weaknesses or overpowered elements can be further demonstrated but whilst still allowing everyone to have fun :-)
The lists used would be those featured and developed here on tactical command so as to maintain a common ground.  For further testing we would probably also take on board the reccomendations of the NetERC as well as several other changes from the 2008 handbook.  Hopefully this will allow us to work towards refining even more so a game that we all know and love :-)

So; that's late january, minimal cost (we'll be running it non-profit: i intend to ebay some prizes!) so let's say between £10-15. Maybe 16-20 participants depending on hall size.

Hmm fast trains to Bristol from Paddington/Reading. Easily accessible for me from Surrey. I'm definitely interested. One dayer is good for me, and I'd prefer that anyway.
I'd like this to be as competitive and formal as possible, with the recognition of course that list balance is less than well known.

I'm definitely there Possibly with a friend as well, if my attempt to talk an old EpicA opponent into getting back into the game too works (could go either way).

For the much wider range of armies and possibilities available this is the number one tournament in the year I want to go to, though I will still do the more restricted Epic-UK tournaments too.

Sounds fantastic; not sure if I could make it (January is always busy for me) however when you have dates let us know and we will put it in the EPIC UK calendar.

Sure you Epic-UK folks run great tournaments but - in the nicest possible way that I hope doesn't cause any offence - you don't have a monopoly on them in the UK

No Dark Eldar? They're NetERC recommended as balanced, so it would make sense to allow them at a NetERC based tournament.

Well you could always fly over for Christmas / New year to "the old country". I am sure you could find accomodation - or even some warm hearted forum member to put you up for a few days. Heck you could even arrange an E:A visit travelling around the country to play games with different people or groups.

MOK, on a more serious note, do you have a venue in mind, and have you thought about numbers - with me, that would make 9x people who have expressed interest in a single day. (And I will bring a traditional army of some kind rather than one of these 'flashy' new ones).
