Had a really good time at Open War 10 this weekend, heres a quick report on my games. My army Ork Big Warband Ork Big Warband Ork Warband Ork Warband Ork Landa Ork Landa Big Blitz Brigade (Soopaguns) Blitz Brigade (Zzap) Mekboy Stompamob with Supa-Stompa Mekboy Gunzmob (Zzap) Stormboyz Game 1. Against Wayne Bridge - Black Legion Wayne fielded a fairly nasty looking Black Legion Force composed of some big chaos marine retinues with obliterators supported by 3 Ferals, 2 Deathwheels a decimator and 2 sets of chosen. I have heard alot of complaints about such forces, but my orks tend to do very well against any Black legion army and it proved so again in this battle, my soopa gun armed blitz brigade and Supa-Stompa cleared out the chaos marine retinue providing forward air cover allowing my air assaults to destroy a Feral and Break another, a deathwheel was killed by a supa zzap and all the other war engines were broken by combined shooting or assaults and stayed that way for much of the game. A lethal and well executed counter attack by the chosen that destroyed my Supa-Stompa and stompas combined with the slow speed of my big warbands prevented me trying for a big win but I took a 2-1 win in the third turn (Take and Hold, Defend the Flag vs Break Their Spirit). Game 2. Against Ryan Downes - Imperial Guard Ryan had a very aggressive looking Imperial guard force with lots of storm troopers, mech infantry and some vultures with a big upgraded footslogger infantry formation and sentinels Shadowswords and thunderbolts in support. He probably played it a little bit too defensively and never really recovered from a big early setback as my air assaulting warbands decided in true orky fashion to ignore the enemy flak and CAP and flew straight at his supreme commander mech infantry intermingled with some vultures, many orks were lost but as the dust cleared only a handful of guardsmen and a couple of chimeras could be seen heading for the hills even more significantly the vultures broke and stayed that way for the rest of the game which allowed my soopa gun armed big blitz brigade free rain to cause carnage on the remaining infantry. My soopa stompa survived miraculously long enough against the shadowswords to allow them to be caught and destroyed while also adding to the heavy toll of casualties suffered by the guard stormtroopers and infantry. By the fourth turn most of the guard army was destroyed or broken but again the fairly slow nature of my army and skillful play with his remaining formations by Ryan prevented me getting more than a 2-0 win (Take and Hold and I Cant remember if it was Defend the flag or Break their Spirit) Game 3 - Against Matt Otter - Marines So thanks to two wins, game 3 saw me face off against Matt Otter on the top table for the chance to win Open War X. I've played Matt many times over the last few years and they are always challenging but fun games and I certainly new before going into the game that it would probably prove a tough match for my stand up and fight but fairly slow ork horde army against Matts air mobile and extremely fast Marine army. So it proved with my army never really able to get to grips with the marines on anything like equal terms, one lost assault after another combined with vicious straffing runs by thunderhawks saw my support formations eliminated. In the end the big warbands and the thankly virtually untouchable stompas and supa stompa were forced to fight a defensive rearguard action and hold out for a draw. Game ended in a draw on objectives but with Matt killing about a thousand more points of orks than I had managed to kill marines and with his winning draw Matt took the title. I had a very good time again at this Open War managing to come away with third place and best army, I would like to thank all my opponents for three very good and tough games. Congrats to Matt Otter for winning. Final Standings 1. Matt Otter - Marines 2. Matt Arnold - Imperial Guard 3. Joe Jephson - Orks 4. Dave Thomas - Imperial Guard =5.Mark Williams - Eldar =5.Chris Hayes - Imperial Guard 7. Steve Gullick - Black Legion 8. Tim Hunt - Eldar 9. Alan Saunders - Marines 10.Wayne Bridge - Black Legion 11.Ryan Downes - Imperial Guard 12.Richard Brewis - Imperial Guard 13.Simon White - Orks 14.Alan Cameron - Marines 15.Simon jenkins - Marines 16.Damien Bradley - Eldar So the top four places are core rule book lists with no Black legion placing in the top 5 and three imperial guard lists making it into the top half. See everyone at the Dragon Slayers GT |

Great report Joe and congrats on best painted army! I had a horrible morning due to my hang over but still showed up at the venue without a ticket in the hopes of playing. Eventually I was offered a place and was sent in to play against TRC and his atrange Gaurd army. I was fielding: Warlock titan 850 aspects with exarch and autarch in wave serpants 600 Void spinner 250 gaurdians in wave serpants 350 gaurdians in wave serpants 350 jet bikes 200 jet bikes 200 4 rangers 100 4 rangers 100 Avatar Free! Ok the game against chris went rather badly. possibly due to HIM USING MY DICE!!!! Never will this happen again. it was all a bit of a blur but i gained a new respect for flack battries as one managed to kill of the warlock titan cowering in a wood with no holo fields! sufice to say i lost 3-0! Great game chris but next time dont use my dice! Game 2 was against simon and his orks. by this time i had eaten and my hangover had gone  ![]() A combined assault from my titan and the aspects and that was that really. just had to mop up and deal with the air assault. WIN 5-0. Game 3 was against ryan downs and his gaurd. ryan had  just played joe and lost! But he seemed in high spirits as we set up. the game was very cagey the first 2 turns with little happening and not much of ryans activating!! his dice were appaling to be fair in the first two turns then i won the first activation of the third turn i did my three activations starting with the warlock titan who destroyed out right an infantry company then stood between 2 formations a shadow sword and the vultures who had just ralied. 2 retains later (farsight rocks!) he had lost 3 formations and was in desparate need of stopping me from tacking the win. at the end of the third turn it was 1-0 to me and to play a forth turn would have been suicide for ryan as he had lined up three formations. all i had to do was win the first activation and it was all over. sadly we only had 15 mins left of the game so we agreed on a 2-0 win to me. All in all not a bad day. Except i was giving mat arnold a lift and he came 2nd! Great players great games great day! see you all a dragon slayers! |

yes...9/18 activations failing in a game didn't make me particularly pleased with the troops; next time i'll get them to move along a little quicker...i need to get a bit more practice in with that guard army... To be fair though both games were mighty enjoyable; i especially like being utterly stumped by what to do against Joe's ork horde; and it's an army i've tried out myself a couple of time since; i looked at it a bit like an iron hammer that you don't need to think with but boy was i wrong! it takes skill to use that one..nevertheless i'm still stumped on how to beat it; a rematch would be great! Thinking of doing a similar feeing feral ork army based on it now too...don't know how to replace those landers though! As for the third and final game...not sure what to say about all those missing activations; "if only this" and "if only that" never won a war! Nevertheless i learnt a lot from my mistakes at OW10 and i look forward to seeing you all next year for more toureny action; the only question is; what to take?! |

funnily enough those dice haven't been performing well since; investing in some more might be a good idea... |

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if Braveheart could provide a few brief comments on his list and how it performed? Cheers, |

Quote: (Honda @ 14 Jan. 2009, 19:08 ) Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if Braveheart could provide a few brief comments on his list and how it performed? Cheers, Well, braveheart won the tournament with that list. The three thunderhawks are the key interesting feature in this list: Once they have deployed their payloads, The thunderhawks (and thunderbolts) whent around spraying everything. Note that there's only two formations that could be transported by the thunderhawks, the Devs and the Terminators. So one of these can be picked up at the end of the first turn for redeployment in the next turn. And plenty of thunderhawks available to pick up and redeploy in the third turn! |

The bikes can be transported as wel, the army I am putting togetheris remarkebly similar except I have land sepeeders in lieu of the predators. Now I read this I may change it as I dont want to essentially copy another list ![]() |
