Which of the unofficial army lists are balanced for tournament play? I am assuming that the Necrons, Minervans, and OGBM lists are. What about the Tau? And is the FW Tau list good enough for a tournament? Update: And 'Nids. I assume the 9.0 version of the list is good to go at a tourney? |

OGBM is fine if its not a powergamer - simple way to ensure that is to have all experimental lists be vetted by the ref prior to start. FW Tau is very easy to powergame, even unintentionally, the SG one can be as well. Really the above solution for powergamers works with all the main experimental lists. They can all be good, its just some people abuse their current level of finish. |

I should add that probably the majority of players will be newer players or ones that haven't played Epic in some time. So if you need to have a good grasp of the game to deal with a list then it might be a good thing to exclude it from the list for the event. |

Some formations are very small (and good - 6 FW and 3 devilfish for 150 as a core formation allowing support groups) and you can get a very high activation count even unintentionally. Add in coordinated fire and you can have a very one sided game. Leaving that aside the aircraft are very powerful (barracudas, 2 for 125 points with 8 weapons systems between them, or if they are very mean 300 points for two DC2 5+ save A-10s with 90cm range TK D3 railcannon amongst other weapons), and if they are new players aircraft are hard to cope with. I've seen many new players come with their 40k armies in miniature, so no flak or fighters. Also the Orca upgrade isn't clear - do you actually add an aircraft to the formation? |

TRC's stance is by no means the consensus position - Views on the Tau list are pretty divided between people who think they are ok and too-powerful |

Thats the FW Tau list steve ![]() The SG one has certain 'broken' combos which are trying to be solved (the rest being fine). |

I'd say that Nids could be used & if people are pre-warned AMTL. Other lists that have had work done on them and could be allowed are Ulthwe and Emperors Children. |

And consensus is certainly not a word I'd use to describe the situation :-) |

Minverans are defintely OK. They are all but not overpowered ^^ Nid´s 9.0 I´ve yet to test but looks a big step forward. maybe a tourney bring much insight to the list. Necrons are nasty, cannot say anything to them |

SG Tau are closer to being balanced than FW Tau. FW Tau are more fun to play with (And against) however, in my experience, due to the less static list style. |
