I've picked up some hours working at the local GW (Because I want a good reference next time I'm in Nottingham on official business...), and the manager of the store I'm at is very pro-Epic. He's suggested running an Epic Doubles tournament, probably £10 entry fee, with £50 of Epic models for the first place team as a prize. The store has 4 6x4 tables available for gaming, which is why he's suggested a Doubles tournament (Meaning that 16 players could take part in 8 teams). A weekday would be preferred over a weekend-day, though I reckon that's negotiable if enough interest is shown. Lists would be all official lists, plus a select few off of the Experimental set (If the ERC could see their way to approving a few for tournament play in time, that'd be cool). As it'd be a Doubles tournament, lists would probably be restricted to 1500pts each, and Strategy rating would probably be limited to the lowest strategy rating in the team (So if Steel Legion and Marines teamed up, they'd both have to use SR 2). AFAIK noone's tried running a Doubles tournament before, despite it being a common format for tournaments in other gaming systems. Some locals are interested, but what about the pros? Whatcha think chaps? |

Depending on when I'd be interested. A weekend would be better in all honesty though. How will the pairs be drawn? |

Most doubles tournies allow you to choose your pairs before you turn up. Thus, Billy and Teddy decide to go to the Epic Doubles in London, pay their sign-up fees, turn up, and play in the first ever Epic Doubles tourney. Easy! I reckon I can swing him to a weekend if there's enough demonstrated interest ; The event would need to be fully booked out (16 players) to justify taking his gaming room and turning it EPIC for the day. |

I might should be able to swing another day down in London. Although I might have to bring the boss and let her loose on Oxford Street. Any idea on timing? If its during term time then I would most likely have to pass. |

When? I fear I will be in India for September. How does dubles work? Each side takes it in turn to have one active player? Or both go simultaneously? Mixed epic lists can be quite powerful, though if both sides were powergaming it should be okay (i.e. Siege Defences filled with marines, or supported by marine drop pod assaults/air assaults, backed up by artillary). You could just say both people have to choose from the same list. One day seems to work well for London. |

How does dubles work? Each side takes it in turn to have one active player? Or both go simultaneously? Each side takes it in turns as normal... the two players on a side agree which player gets to activate his formation each time (So no particularly stict order of activation for each player). You could just say both people have to choose from the same list. Probably the best way to do it, on the balance of things. |

I could be interested if it is in the summer holidays (gods bless working at a school). Though I might not be able to enter with a partner. What about having it as with blind partner, unless you want a partner (the latest devourer torni was like this). |

Blind match-ups could be arranged, but that would mess with the 'both players must use the same army list' thing... |

True, but other ways around the different army ratings could be 1) Use the lowest SR 2) use the highest SR 3) Use the average SR i) round down ii) round up 4) each sub army rolls and you i) use the highest overall ii) add both sub armies together and use the best total roll You also have to look at how many supreme commanders each team can buy and who they can use their reroll for. |

Blind still gives problems with army match ups. In essence Siege are probably the best to take as odds on no one else will have them and everyone is better at attacking so you form a boring baseline defence for the other guy to attack off. 0-x's are a problem, as are supreme commanders and spaceships. |

But we are Epic players so we can come to a sensible agreement. Or E&C can just impose something. |

Indeed, I'm more worried about if there's interest in a Doubles tourney right now, rather than specific rules. The tourney will be more about having fun and showing the locals how cool Epic is (The store manager wants to get a few more locals into Epic off the back of the tourney) rather than a hardcore competative day, or at least so I'd like to imagine. |
