Rather than lists I think it would be good to know how games are won 5-0, 2-1 or draws etc. This with the two armies played could be interesting too.

How many of last year's tourneys allowed the use of the two Chaos lists?

And nids for that matter!

My thought is that any 'championship' scoring system should only take into account results from the same type of tournament environment.

For example, Tyranids put in a poor show because presumably they were only allowed at one or two events.

I propose that any tournament that features experimental army lists be striken from the Championship, because results will be distorted due to their presence, even amongst the scores of the official armies.

A second Championship list could be compiled from tournaments which allowed experimental army lists.

Interesting, Chaos Marine armies are nearly as rubbish as Marines, and L&TD are terrible! :D

Would it be possible to get a breakdown on each army's performance on a percentage basis, rather than overall score (As some armies are fielded by more players, and assuming all else is equal, will simply accrue more points!)?

Something like:

Army X -

% of games won
% of games drawn
% of games lost

I'm guessing that the records required might not be available though.

I could go back through my tournament reports and generate my personal stats, but as a below average tournament player it wouldn't mean too much!

I am happy to collate such info going forward if people supply the info.

The difference is that when you attend a tournamnet, you generally come second Joe!

Two years or so of tournament results give the following (minus the results for a few tournaments - which I dont have) - the disparity on chaos between me and steve is probably because I dont have the results from last years GW grand tourni, also dependant on where you draw the line on wins and draws - I have been quite strict and only called it a win if you won through objectives.

In the format Win / Draw / Loss

Biel-Tan Eldar              - 56 / 36 / 44
Codex Marines            - 68 / 32 / 60
Ork Horde                   - 42 / 32 / 51
Steel Legion Guard     - 49 / 45 / 63
Chaos Black Legion    - 18 / 19 / 15
Feral Orks                   - 6 / 5 / 2
White Scar Marines     - 5 / 3 / 2
Tyranids                      - 2 / 5 / 2
Ork Speed Freaks       - 6 / 2 / 5
Siegemaster Guard     - 5 / 3 / 3
Lost and the Damned - 4 / 1 / 1

Based on Steve 54's figures, I've come up with:

BLACK LEGION
33% wins
35% draws
31% losses

(1% lost as fractions)

L&TD (Sample size notably small)
22% wins
44% draws
33% losses

(1% lost as fractions)

TYRANIDS (List version? Sample size notably small)

22% wins
56% draws
22% losses

ELDAR
48% wins
30% draws
21% losses

(1% lost as fractions)

CODEX MARINES
30% wins
27% draws
43% losses

STEEL LEGION IG
32% wins
28% draws
40% losses

SIEGEMASTERS
33% wins
66% draws
0% losses

(Sample size notably small)

WHITE SCARS MARINES
40% wins
60% draws
0% losses

(Sample size notably small)

All else being equal, a 'balanced' army list should be putting out a 33% average in each value (Assuming an equal level of skill and luck for all players).

Notable failures to appear 'balanced' (Any list that deviates by more than 5% from 33% in any category) are:

L&TD: A low number of wins, a high number of draws.

Tyranids: A low number of wins and losses, a high number of draws. (Sample size notably small)

Eldar: A high number of wins, a low number of losses (Wonder why the community wanted these nerfed? :D )

Codex Marines: A high number of losses.

Steel Legion IG: A hugh number of losses.

Siegemasters: A high number of draws (Notably small sample size)

White Scars Marines: A high number of wins and draws (Notably small sample size).

The one list that comes closest to the universal 33% is... Black Legion!  :O

This is very interesting stuff.

Joe if there are any of the early Open War results missing from the totals the 1st Co. web site still has them on their events page.
