Aye, we are booked in from 10am.
If we all help setting up etc then the first game shouldn't start later then 11am :)
Lunch break after game 1.

Out of curiosity, what does that put our finish time at?

Depending on 2h or 2.5h games, that's somewhere between 6-7pm.
A proper day of Epic, as is just. :)

Thanks guys for having us on your teams! Good games against good people.

Special thanks to Florian for organising it.

Thanks all for a great tournament. Thoroughly enjoyed all of my games. We'll get in training with our new mat and hope to take the cup next year.

Agreed. Thanks Florian for organising a great day and to the guys for some great if mostly one-sided games.
  • I wish Charles and I had been able to play our Marine civil war a bit longer, it was a close game that ended in a draw.
  • Richard's Necrons game was intense, but brief tussle to see who could throw the worst armour saves - my low dice crown remains intact :)
  • The game against Mat's IG started with a bang but ended with a wimper.
    - My spacecraft bombarded and then dropped two formations onto two mech companies and a Warhound. Retaining, the Termies arrived by Thawk to break the HQ company despite some desperate OW fire from Vultures (though the Termies were broken). In retaliation the IG Warhound fired on my Tacs but only caused three casualties.
My Devs sustained to wipe out the remains of the other company and in a fit of IG pique, a sole Shadowsword doubled forward to use its enormous volcano cannon to swat the elusive Termie survivor. :D
    - On the other flank, my speeders' assault on some sentinels was repulsed with heavy losses.
Then my Dev BTS lost its Hunter to a DT roll, which weakened its support of the bikes that arrived by THawk to assault the SH company; despite losing a Shadowsword to a critical, the SH company brushed aside the remnants.
    - My heavy cold finally got the better of me and at that point, with few feet remaining on the ground, we called the game.

Exceedingly disappointed on missing out on the mat. A real tormenter there Florian - victory OR prizes. In the end i just couldn't help myself though...

3 interesting games though, the first against David saw my first loss with the necrons, he played it pretty canny (effectively not coming on till turn 3) and was helped no end by me being unable to rally anything all game, which was a trifle disappointing.

Game 2 against Gavin was a bit brutal, and after having a horrendous first half of turn 1 thanks to some seriously janky rolling, Gavin then demonstrated some truly epic bad dice, and failed something like 8 reinforced armour saves in a row. Ouch! Needless to say, things went a bit south for him after this...

Game 3 was against Steve's squats, which was a really interesting game. Overall it was pretty cagey, and if it hadn't been for Steve's desire to take out two of my assault units, he'd have certainly held it to turn 4. Unfortunately for him i was able to take down the colossus (which took an astonishing amount of firepower to deal with) before he could then run it away, and was able to and pip him 2-1.

On a side note to the squats, the lack of overlords certainly didn't hurt him, and in many respects the pair of iron eagles were if anything much more of a pain to deal with. Another shocking lack of mole mortars too ;)

Yeah, there were a couple of cold + 60 hour working week moves in my games! Didn't miss the overlord at all. Double gyros are good - I'd be interested to try using light artillery in the list as a way of picking on scouts and broken units.

The Thudd guns could be an interesting addition - the 90cm range makes them quite tasty, especially if garrisoned off the blitz for some cheeky turn 1 shooting into the enemy deployment zone. Not sure what you'd drop from that list mind you, it's a pretty lean list already!

Right, after having recovered from some terrible drinking celebrating that the event is over on Saturday, here's the official announcement:

After three epic games, every round seeing massive swings in both directions, dice being kissed and cursed, figures flying all over the place and many spectators taking interest in EA, the winner of the official London Epic Club Derby with a total of 256 - 220 points is.... *drumroll pls... SOUTH LONDON WARGAMERS

Image

The team around captain Richard successfully defended last years victory, again claiming the title of the superior Epic club, the cup and bragging rights over CLWC.
Till next year that is ;D

Central London Wargames Club, which was led by Steve, took their loss with the usual high spirit, claiming the wooden spoon prize of a 6x4 mousepad F.A.T. mat for their club to practise on. Unfortunately Gavin, their fifth player, was struggling ill and could not be part of the picture.

Thanks again to everybody for joining the fun, especially our two guest players from Guildford, making it a great day for the Epic community in London.

Hope to see you all again next year!

I think it would be one of the gyro cos for artillery and a warlord in the other big infantry Co. I'm not sold but want to give it a try.

I did not drink a sip of alcohol for a week after that - that was a pretty heavy session!!!!!

Got home at 3am.

I have vague memories of drunkenly dancing around the pub!
