Great work on these, are the lava boards for decoration or will they have gameplay effects?

Thanks all. Makes it worthwhile when feedback is as good as that :0).

However, with all the work done so far ( pulling together the sponsors (mega prizes), scenery making and advertising on endless forums, blogs and Facebook - I'd be much happier if this effort is rewarded in tickets selling to make it all (double)worth the while :0)

Kyuss, the terrain rules for the lava and ice boards (see previous pic) will be entirely up to the players during the five minute warm up (in addition to the other terrain on the board). As this event is part of the EUK championship standings, it wouldn't be fair if I muscled in and imposed special(i.e dangerous) rules for the boards. When two players meet over the lava or Ice boards they have a choice whether they want to play it risky (i.e dangerous terrain) or just difficult terrain etc. All depends how risky/safe they want to be at the end of the day. I'll post a Entrenchment 'Homewold Tables Tour Guide ' by the weekend to give a better idea of scenery to expect on the day.:0)

Kyrt, the majority of the EUK events are up North, so that was the main reason why I put on an event down in the West country. Nobody else down here was ever likely to put on an Epic Armageddon tournament (apart from Bristol)so I thought I'd give it a go. P.s, for the ever Epic Uk event I went to as a player, I travelled up to Nottingham (Full Scale Assault 2012). Whilst Exeter is a long way to go for some players up country, it's still in the UK! ;0)

The prizes will make it worth it...

I'm of course not suggesting you should run it anywhere else, that would be mad. It's your tournament! :)

You are understandably disappointed that more people are not putting their money where their mouth is, I just have a sneaking suspicion they are thinking like me.

I personally won't be able to make it purely because it is too far to travel in a day and still be fit for a commitment the following day (at least 4.5 hours each way and £70 in fuel). It's not intended as a criticism, just an explanation. I guess the truth of it is, most of us have to choose which events we will go to, so we choose them based partly on which are most convenient for us. I have gone to various events generally in the midlands or London, but I did manage a Bristol one that I was able to tie in with a separate engagement. I chose them partly because they are reasonable for me to get to, and I think that is fair - I would not begrudge anyone who did the same.

Basically I am just spoiled (and others more spoiled than me I will add!). I bet that if all the events were in the south west I'd be more likely to sit in the car for those 9 hours. Likewise I expect the corollary is also true: as you say, there are fewer events in the south west which is probably why you put the effort in to travel to Nottinghamshire :)

So, it is no reflection on the job you are doing or the event you are planning - it looks fantastic - it's purely a factor of something that is totally out of your control.

Cheers Kyrt, sorry mate, that wasn't aimed at you directly - just a bit crap when I put the time and effort to contact the fantastic and very generous prize sponsors along with putting that extra creative effort in making custom scenery, but don't see it making any difference in ticket sales at all! Part of the reason why I'm doing the 'flashy stuff and prizes' is as a thank you to the players entering (and those travelling this far down south).

You're totally right regarding picking your chosen events to attend for the year. 9 hours round trip journey is a long way. However, this in mind - going to new areas opens up playing the game against new opponents, rather than the same ones on a regular basis. Regarding travelling, In addition to the Epic Notts trip back in 2012, I travelled up to Notts again last December for a Kings of War tournament at the ace Mantic Open day ( I love that company). Hmm, maybe I might do a Kings of War event next year :0)

There's still 30 odd days yet to get tickets - so I supposein Epic terms, thats an eternity (as Kyuss mentioned about 'Wrath Of TheTyrant' - the last week or so saw a big surge in ticket sales) .

Going to try the 'local' card..."Calling all Exetonians, Bristolians, Somersetans, Dorsetonians, Bristolians, Cornishonians, Wiltsherians and Gloucestershirans , roll up roll up :0)"

We find most of the ticket sales for events usually sell in the last week or two in the run up to an event, don't be surprised to find a few enquiries for tickets in the last couple of days.
You may even have to turn players away ;) .

I think you'll get a good raft of last minute entries as people suddenly find plans change and they become available, some of us don't know if we can actually afford it until quite close to the deadline.... you never know if you're going to spend spare money fixing the car or needing new shoes or a new laptop or something...

Cheers dptdexys. Now both yourself and Kyussy have confirmed the very same thing, sounds like a regular (unofficial) theme that happens during the course of ticket sales.

Back to scenery making I go go.

I know I personally only plan for an event, tickets and lists, on whats coming up next. In fact if it wasn't for Steve54 I'd probably miss a few deadlines for tickets.

Well, everything needs to start somewhere and the best promotion is and will always be happy players spreading the word after an event. :)

I know it can suck (for a TO) but i found this to be true for every event, not only our wargaming hobby.
So don't worry, just follow your plan and see it through. Worst thing that could happen is blaming yourself afterwards that you haven't given everything you got.

As to tickets sales, the CLWC is planning to make a showing but still need to sort out travel & accommodation.

BTW, a shout out to all the players in the area: Would anybody be able to put a couple fellow gamers up for a night maybe? :)

That's a good point, I have floor space for up to four gamers but I'm fifteen miles from the venue so it would need to be people with their own car as there's only two passenger seats in the van.

I am thinking about coming from Germany. I found a flight with reasonable costs (around 130 Euros), but it is landing in Stansted. Is there perhaps somebody who could pick me up around London? Or who could give me a tip for "How to get from Stansted to Exeter" :D

Also, I am still looking for an accomodation, since there is no flight back on the same day. So if anybody could recommend a hotel around the area of the tourney or at least in short taxi "range" I would be very happy.
