The 07:27 from Milton Keynes gets you into Piccadilly at 09:07, a shorter drive then train? Probably cost more that way though.

I'd considered that, but you just can't get out of London early enough to get to Manchester for a 9:30 start - not to mention that even if you can get out of Euston on time, you've still got the issue of getting the 15 or so miles through london before the trains and underground start running, and i'm kinda out in the sticks these days...

I'm anticipating around 3.5 - 4 hours to get there given i'll be setting off at 5am from South London, based on similar journeys to Mansfield taking around 2.5 hours on average.

All I can say is Good luck Richard - I have driven in and around London for over 40 years, including through Clapham. On a quite day, it would still take me ~40 mins to get from there to the end of the M40 (basically where I live), and I have never done Manchester in less than 4.5 hours from my house . . . .

Even doing it in 4 hours each way as you anticipate, that is still a minimum of 8 hours driving on top of a full day's gaming - I hope you are planning to sleep through Sunday :D

I found the Monday worse than the Sunday when I drove down to Wiltshire.

I suppose the other thing you could do is drive up the night before and avail yourself of a cheap and cheerful B&B or something to crash in?

M1 and M6 north on a Friday evening are two words, Car Park.

Unless you leave after 22:00 and hope all the accidents have been cleared its the worst time to travel North.

I've been away too long, I might try making this one.

Must say i'll be interested in seeing if the scenario change for one mission actually changes the spread on armies in attendence for this (although i find it pretty random at the best of times mind you), and whether the lists will be that different. I doubt i'll be diverging from what i'd normally take personally, but then i've not played this one before - so list tinkering for a specific mission probably isn't that sensible without some practice!
