It's really up to the tournament organizer to deem what armies are allowed at their tourney. The NetEA "approved" lists at this point are (and now that you mention it we should probably have a thread somewhere stating this) Codex Astartes, Steek Legion, Ghazgkull's Warhorde, White Scars, Speed Freakz, Biel-tan, Baran Siege Masters, Feral Orks, Black Legion, Lost and the Damned, Dark Eldar, Necrons and Minervan Tank Legion (I think that's complete, not sure on the status of the Tau list).

Currently there's no process set on becoming approved, something we should rectify as well. Mostly it means that the list is well vetted/run through the ringer for a year or so.

I've just begun testing the 'nid v10 list, and I'm looking at getting in one game a week with them. Between now and Adepticon it'll most likely see a v10.1 and at least 20 games from me (and hopefully a bunch more from others). Not sure if that'll be enough for Getupandgo to allow it in 2012 but hopefully by 2013 it'll be stamped "approved". If you can get some games in feedback and battle reports are always welcome though.

Tyranids are currently being revised more or less from the ground up. There are changes in stats, army composition, and major rules mechanics at this time. It is therefore not an army that can be considered ready for tournament play by any means at this point. It's not neccessarily unbalanced, mind you, but there simply hasn't been enough testing done to determine yet.

Because they are, as you note, fan made rules, there is likely to be some variance between tournies in allowed lists, based on the level of development the lists have seen, how 'strict' the organizer is about allowing GW/NetEA/EpicUK/etc. lists, etc.

However, unless there is a major roadblock, it's pretty likely Tyranids will have settled down enough and seen enough testing to play at next year's Adepticon. There's no shortage of people who want to use the list, and Dave and zombo seem to be doing a good job of herding the cats. There's certainly been more useful discourse on the list in the past month than in the last few years combined.

Well, if they are being reworked, is there a way I can help? If its an army I have (and the only one I might add) I'd like to help in any way I can. Where can I go to work on this?

That being said, should you not have an army and still want to play, the local group has quite a few armies painted up that you could use. I'm not officially playing myself as I'll be doing grunt helper work that day most likely (probably splitting time between the Epic and WFB) so if you want to use one of my armies you would be perfectly welcome to one.

I'd start at the Tyranids subforum in the NetEA Development section of the boards - near the bottom.

There are plenty of loaner armies if you'd like to still play. Unfortunately, there's no tournament ready tyranic lists, and allowing one of the non-ready lists would cause potential problems.

Also, since the rules for these armies are made by fans/others, why/who/when are these things tested then? Why even make an army if they are not legal for play? Also, what armies ARE "legal" in this type of game. Its fairly vague. Its not like they ban armies in regular 40k.

Tyranids haven't been solidly play-tested and vetted on by the community. GW doesn't support the game anymore, and when they did, they didn't come out with an official list for tyranids in E:A.

There aren't any "banned armies", there is currently no Tyranid army list that has been put through the proper wringers.

There are dozens of tournament-ready armies to choose from. Any list up on the GW site, anything in Epic Raiders, or Seige will all be usable, as well as a handful of other fan-created lists that have been vetted.

While I understand. It just makes me sad that I can't play the army that I own. I choose Nids because it was interesting in different. That and because Tau costs more than my medical bills each month to buy. Either way I'll work it out. Are Necrons available?

Available to loan or a permitted army? There were two Necron players last year, and Exodus Wars does some superb Necron Infantry. Necron Vehicles are available here and there, PM for details.

I feel the same: I'm in the middle of building a Vanaheim Army, and am going to have to shuffle things to play it as an Elysian list instead. Carefully painted unit markings will need to be shuffled and/or disregarded to make the list playable.

That quote my dear friend Warlord would be from the fine movie, Top Gun.

Everything listed here (including the latest Tau list, except for ghazguls titan list) are ok for this tournament. There will be probably a half-dozen or so others allowed as well.

That should be plenty of playtesting to allow it for 2013... assuming there isn't fundamental disagreement that can't be resolved... but we're all (or at least mostly) adults here, so with that much time and effort put in, I can't imagine that it won't be "tournament ready" by then. I know there are a couple of people around here that would love to get their hands on a playable Tyranid list.

I will have permitted armies up by the end of the month hopefully, I'm leaning towards Vanaheim being ok.

Between now and Adepticon, there should be plenty of time to figure something out if you wanted to play. At worst, you can pick up a playable (although perhaps not extremely competitive) marine or eldar army up on ebay for really cheap... probably about the cost of one box of 40k marines. And yes, Necrons are allowed at this tournament.

That said, there are only 4 tickets left, so anyone who's interested, should buy them now.

If he wants to play marines and doesn't want to buy them, I have a full chapter's worth (in standard Codex formations) of Ultramarines painted OK but not great that are available for loan.

And I have, oh, 20k of Guard I won't be using, but share a case with my Air Cav. Tank heavy, but very usable nonetheless.

According to Ebay Space Marine armies I can pay for with the change lying on my floor. Are they really that plentiful or that bad?
